Highland County Homeless Shelter

The Highland County Homeless Shelter, established in 2004, is located in Hillsboro, Ohio, and is a 501(c) (3) non-profit emergency homeless shelter. Capacity is 28 beds, and the shelter serves single men, single women, and families with children. We provide a complete case-managed program that assists the client with overcoming the barriers which led them to hom

elessness. These services include but are not limited to benefit application assistance for SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, SSI / SSDI, Veteran’s Services, and many more. Assistance with resume writing, employment search, GED procurement, budgeting and finance, food and nutrition, medical appointments and prescriptions, parenting classes, and general life skills are provided. Rapid-Rehousing programs are available to aid a client in securing stable housing, and referrals for mental health, addiction, domestic violence, veterans, and youth services are provided while at the shelter. Bedding, clothing, toiletries, and all food are provided during the client's stay, allowing them to have a safe, secure, stable environment to begin to rebuild their lives. Funding and donations are vital to the Highland County Homeless Shelters' success. The shelter employs 1 full-time employee Greg Hawkins, Executive Director; we are both on-call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. This allows us to keep our overhead low and provide additional services to our clients. The Highland County Homeless Shelter is seeking monetary donations for our annual capital campaign. Information and updates about the shelter can be found at www.highlandcountyhomelessshelter.com and on Facebook. Your generosity will make a difference in our community by permitting us to continue our work with those in need. Greg Hawkins, Executive Director

On Saturday, June 13th, the Highland County Homeless Shelter was honored to be a recipient of the Big Give—a community wide volunteer day dedicated to giving back through hands on service projects.

The Big Give is all about neighbors helping neighbors, and this year’s volunteers truly embodied that mission. Our shelter received fresh mulch, beautiful flowers, and even some much needed gutter cleaning. These improvements may seem simple, but they make a meaningful difference. A welcoming, well cared for environment helps our clients feel valued and gives them a sense of dignity during a challenging time in their lives.

We are deeply grateful to every volunteer who showed up with willing hands and generous hearts. Your work brought new life to our outdoor space and reminded us once again how strong and compassionate our community can be.

The Highland County Homeless Shelter was blessed with a warm, home cooked meal that brought comfort, dignity, and joy to our clients. The church provided an abundant spread—fried chicken, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, green beans, corn, rolls, cookies, cake, and soda—and every single item was prepared and shared with genuine love for our community.

Acts of kindness like this do more than fill plates. They remind our clients that they are seen, valued, and supported. They strengthen the bonds within our community and show what can happen when people come together with open hearts and a willingness to serve.

We are deeply grateful to the members of Living Hope Pentecostal Church for their continued partnership and for living out their mission in such a meaningful way. Your generosity nourished both body and spirit today, and we appreciate you more than words can express.

Thank you, Greg Hawkins, Executive Director

Thank you to the incredibly generous donors who have supported our shelter recently.
Little Caesars provided pizza for everyone over Memorial Day weekend, bringing joy and full stomachs to our residents. We are also deeply grateful to Marsha Mitchell for her generous donation of groceries, and to the Fall Creek Friends Church for preparing a wonderful Sunday dinner featuring BBQ pork, green beans, macaroni salad, ice cream, peach pie, and chocolate chip cookies.

Your kindness makes a real difference in the lives of the people we serve.
