Kallie Kurtz, LCSW, is the Designer and Clinical Director of Grove Institute, where she navigates the vital intersection of behavioral health, neuroscience, and wilderness leadership. A seasoned public health policy strategist and clinician, Kallie has orchestrated major systems-change initiatives, including leading the implementation of Washington’s 988 Behavioral Health Crisis System and developing the Backcountry Behavioral Health framework. Her clinical expertise is forged in high-acuity environments, from Level I Trauma Centers and Emergency Departments to rural outpatient care, with a specialization in trauma, PTSD, and ADHD. Beyond the clinic, Kallie is a lifelong outdoor adventurer and leader with nearly two decades of experience as a Wilderness First Responder and outdoor instructor. She currently develops and runs the PNW Kayak Progression for Diversify Whitewater and serves on the Board of Directors for CultureSeed, supporting initiatives that connect youth with both the outdoors and mental health care. As a frequent speaker at national venues like the Wilderness Risk Management Conference (WRMC), she is dedicated to equipping the outdoor community with the psychological and behavioral tools necessary to understand and manage crisis, trauma, and the unique neurobiology of the "adventurer brain".

Spring is here, meaning that graduations are around the corner! Congratulations to all our PNWM Board Members graduating from their programs, including PNWM President Hayley, who is graduating medical school this spring!

We are so excited for our seniors and cannot wait for them to return to PNWM signature events, like Northwest Wilderness Medicine Conference and Northwest MedWAR, as speakers, preceptors, and mentors. Join us in congratulating them as they begin a new chapter and reflect on their time with PNWM!

Congratulations to all of our PNWM 4th years who matched! They are headed off to amazing new chapters and will be sorely missed.

Featured here is Nina, our Treasurer, and Alyse, our VP!

Both of these incredible women have not only served on the PNWM board throughout their medical school years, but they each have directed MedWARs and our annual Northwest Wilderness Medicine Conference.

Congratulations again to all the PNWM 4th years - we cannot wait for you to come back as speakers, preceptors, and mentors!

Ryan LeBuhn is an Emergency Medicine physician at the Maimonides Medical Center in South Brooklyn. He has believed that the wilderness is the best educational setting for early learners ever since attending the first Northwest Wilderness Medicine Conference as a medical student in 2016. In addition to working at emergency departments in the Maimonides system, Ryan provides medical advisory for New Jersey Search & Rescue and helps teach the Wilderness Medicine Elective at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He was a lifelong Oregonian before moving to NYC in 2020 for residency. "Wherever I May Roam, 5.9" at Smith Rock is still his favorite climbing route.
