Our own Chapter Commander, Shawn Carter, is a vital member of Support Our Troops Of Highland County - he’s been an advocate of our Active Duty Service Members since his own discharge in 1995; his father was a USMC Purple Heart Vietnam Veteran, his brother is a Major in the U.S. ARMY AGR, and his nephew is a Sergeant, also in the U.S. Army.

🛑 Have you ever wondered how our organization started?

🗓️ Established in 2004 by Sarah Ryan with the support of Paulette Donley, Support Our Troops Of Highland County was founded to create a central and local system of support for our area Service-Members and their families. Within a few weeks of these efforts being underway, Sarah had grabbed the attention of several community members, including Chris Gutierrez, Barb Vergamini and Rhonda Mason, and her mission took off, and to this day is fulfilling it’s duties!!

🇺🇸 Our Mission Statement is:

“Showing a continued effort of support to our local Troops, U.S. Military Veterans and their Families, in any way
we possibly can, as a means of letting them know they are not being forgotten.
Our main goal is sending support to our OCONUS Troops via Care Packages, Letters and Cards, etc. throughout the
year, based on community donations and contributions.”

💯 Since early 2004, 🎗️SOTOHC has had community support from many local military family members and their friends, and today you can see the faces of those who are continuing to make things happen for those who are serving our country. The generosity of our volunteers’ willingness to run fundraisers, shop, sort and pack boxes, fill out cards, run administrative errands and take time out their evenings and weekends promoting and soliciting our cause is just “the norm” for them.

🎗️We came into this year having sent thousands of care-packages and even more cards and hours donated - accomplishing our own for 2️⃣2️⃣ years strong, now‼️

As we continue our second lap around Ohio's 88 counties as part of our seventh annual ODVS “Memorial Month” Project. Each day in May since 2020 we have showcased a different monument or memorial erected in each of Ohio's 88 counties around our state to honor our fallen veterans. Today, we highlight a bronze marker on the south wall of the Highland County Courthouse, which was built in 1834, and today is the oldest courthouse in the State of Ohio in continuous use. Highland County is home to 100 Revolutionary War veterans according to the Sons of the American Revolution.
