An annual message from SLID. A friendly reminder from "SLID" Sullivan Lake Improvement District. Many lake/riparian owners are beginning the spring projects on their properties. For the sake of our lake, SLID would like to remind everyone to use caution with not allowing trash, fertilizers, chemicals, leaves, grass clippings/seed, soil, ash, etc. to enter/leach into the lake. From several lake members, it has been brought to SLID's attention that property owners have been knowingly & unknowingly polluting the lake. Some of this comes from their Lawn or Dock contractors. There are numerous studies on how these pollutants harm the lake and many of them are illegal to purposely put into the lake. www.dnr.state.mn.us/ is a good resource for information and there is a link below. Mother Nature provides enough toxins from acid rain & run-off, we should not add any more.
Again, this is merely a reminder. There is no intention to start finger pointing, arguments or debates. With the aid of LSA, SLID will continue to educate lake members with periodic publications. The water quality & health of our lake is vitally important to each of us. We can all do our part throughout the year to help insure its beauty.
Respectfully Submitted, Kurt Kocur- Chairman of SLID
