Create Happy Moments is a Non-Profit organization which is in its 11th year. We collect gently worn or new costumes for unprivileged children in the Dominican Republic for their annual Carnival and Independence Day festivities, which is held during the month of February. It is cultural tradition to dress up and parade in every village, town and cities throughout the country.
Here in the United S
tates, we celebrate Halloween by dressing up , but once Halloween is over, what we do with the gently used costumes… some kids will wear them to play for a while, but most end up at the back of the closet forgotten or just thrown away.Well that's when my project kicks in! People can donate these costumes through this project and we will ship to distribute in a small school where children who come from limited resources in the Dominican Republic can participate. This project will allow these children, who may otherwise not be able to experience this, wearing a colorful costumes while participating in the country's tradition to dress up and enjoy the festivities and create happy childhood memories through this cultural exchange. We document the entire process and post to give access to all to be able to see and experience through images and videos where their donated costumes are going and how it impacts the life of less fortunate child. The children learn the gift of giving, culture, history, art, geography, and of course a unique concept to recycle--reduce--reuse. Each year we gather an even grater number of donors therefore more children are able give and receive costumes through this cultural exchange.
