This Is Our Story
From the Silence of Saturday...
O, Lord, we are cloaked in darkness and it is dreadfully heavy, almost too much to bear.
Our Friday has been overshadowed, ostensibly consumed by sin, evil and death.
Our Saturday feels hauntingly quiet. Is this real? Is this the Truth? Where are You? We cry out but the lonely echoes of our unanswered prayers are no consolation.
Our Sunday is coming.
So we dare to hope. We dip our toes into a sea of promises. We put our trust in an unseen wave of the Holy Spirit. And not quite unexpectedly, but before we can perceive it, that cloak has been entirely cast off and we are splashing around in Living Water like children on holiday absolutely immersed in Love and Mercy and Goodness and we are so grateful. So overwhelmed and relieved and exhausted from the fullness of emotion, we stumble over the question…
Can this last?
We are the in-between people.
Living as foreigners, we strain to see our way through the tension of the now and the not yet.
It feels like the Fridays are on repeat and the silence of our Saturdays is deafening.
But we are also the faithful people.
Walking as image-bearers, we sow our mustard seeds along a Path of Life paved with stones marked grace and grace.
And each step reminds us that we are witnesses, sometimes frequently, to the Kingdom breaking through. It’s the miracles of our Sundays that sustain us.
And who are we to remain silent?
No. Let us never grow weak or weary. Let us gather to tell of the Lord’s greatness and exalt His name together. Let us praise the Lord at all times and constantly speak His praises. Because the miracle of that One Sunday grants us a Love and a Life that lasts.
Let us have the audacity, the holy boldness, to shout to the Lord. Let us run with abandon and jump for the outstretched arms of a Rescuer we know will be there to catch us - all while still reeling from a Friday, in the midst of a Saturday, because we know that beyond the shadow and above the silence…
Sunday is coming.
Amen.
