This is the original petition from 2019. The new proposal is a 120,000 sq ft self storage facility instead of townhouses: https://www.change.org/p/orangetown-town-board-orangetown-town-board-must-vote-no-to-mfr-zone-change-in-blauvelt-e4d5eaa8-ec15-4525-bab7-03f46ecd334a?source_location=search
**CALL TO ACTION** Dinosaur Fields once again before Town of Orangetown Board on May 7th @ 7PM
The request to change the zoning at at 636 N Greenbush Road is not a simple zoning cleanup activity as it's been portrayed.
The Dinosaur Fields, as this parcel has been known for decades, is a town treasure, a geological marvel where preserved dinosaur tracks abound.
The developer, once again, wants to begin development, as evidenced in the letter presented as backup at the April 2, 2024 meeting. In this new configuration, the proposal is for a 120,000 sq ft self-storage facility which is in direct violation of the 65,000 sq ft limit in the 303 Overlay Zone. Furthermore, the Overlay language states that we must "Protect and enhance the Town of Orangetown's rich resources" and "Encourage open space preservation and environmental stewardship". This proposal runs counter to that.
This issue has been in front of the various boards many times and it is time to stop entertaining development ideas and take real steps to preserve the parcel for future generations to study, admire and enjoy. We implore the board to begin this process.
In 2019, over 600 residents signed a petition to stop this effort and we expect more will get on board to preserve this amazing gem.
Please deny this request and let's begin saving this treasure.
