When Jordan came home from RA training and I knew something was wrong, I called a crisis line and did what I was told. We went the hospital route. Looking back, it wasn't the right first move for us.
This is the NJ Children's System of Care. It's free, it's 24/7/365, and it covers kids up to age 21 whether or not you have insurance.
What most parents don't know is that you can request Mobile Response. A mobile response worker trained in crisis intervention comes to your house, often within an hour. They de-escalate. They assess what's going on. Then they open an 8-week stabilization case and connect your family to the right care.
For many families, that means a therapist who comes to your home once a week, two hours at a time, for 8 weeks. Also free. It usually takes a week or two to get a therapist assigned. That first visit is about calming things down and getting real help lined up.
You do not have to load your kid into a car and sit in an ER at midnight. There is another door.

Educators are often among the first to notice when a student is struggling, but knowing what to look for and how to respond can make all the difference.

Join the Society for the Prevention of Teen Su***de (SPTS) for Making Educators Partners: ACT on FACTS, a free online su***de prevention training for New Jersey educators.

This training will help educators strengthen their understanding of youth su***de, recognize behavioral changes and warning signs, and build confidence in taking appropriate action when a student may be at risk. The program will also address students who may be particularly vulnerable and provide guidance on connecting young people with appropriate school resources or mental health professionals.
