This past week, the Highlands Police Explorers participated in the annual NJ Law Enforcement Youth Academy. They overcame many mental and physical challenges alongside police explorers from all over the state throughout the week.
We are especially proud of John Norman who completed his fourth and final year of the academy.

The Highlands Police Explorers recently had the opportunity to take a tour of U.S. Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook. We learned about what the servicemen and women of the Coast Guard routinely do to keep us safe.

The Highlands Police Explorers are proud to have completed the 2023 NJ Law Enforcement Youth Academy.
They learned what it means to succeed as a team this week. Our Explorers took home awards in areas of instruction such as Arrest, Search and Seizure, Narcotics, and Report Writing.

The Highlands Police Explorers would like to congratulate one of our former explorers, Aidan Carey, on his completion of the Monmouth County Police Academy. Officer Carey served the Borough of Highlands as a Police Explorer for 6 years and went on to become a Special Law Enforcement Officer Class I with the Highlands Police Department in 2021. Officer Carey was recently hired by the Middletown Township Police Department as a Patrolman.

We wish him luck in his new career and we are excited to see all that he will accomplish.

The Highlands Police Explorers' latest training was at the WeShoot gun range. Highlands Police Fi****ms Instructors taught the explorers the fundamentals of shooting as well as the importance of range safety. Our explorers receive 6 hours of fi****ms safety instruction prior to being brought to the range to ensure they understand the responsibility that comes with handling a firearm.
Thanks to WeShoot staff for accommodating us for a great night of training!

This year's Highlands Business Partnership raffle to benefit the Highlands Police Explorers will be for an Electra Cruiser GO bicycle, valued at $1,500. Raffle tickets are $5.00 each.

Tickets can be purchased at Highlands events or at Feed & Seed in Highlands at any time during their business hours.

The winning ticket will be drawn on August 5th at the Highlands Clam Festival. You do not need to be present to win.

Highlands Police Explorer graduate Robert Alvator was sworn in as a full time Patrolman with the Highlands Police Department this week. Patrolman Alvator is one of five current Highlands Police Officers who participated in the Highlands Police Explorer Program. We are proud to see another one of our explorers go on to continue serving the Borough of Highlands. Congratulations Patrolman Alvator!

The Highlands Police Explorers recently had the opportunity to use the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office Situational Training and Response Simulator. They were immersed into realistic and interactive virtual scenarios that are used to train officers in de-escalation techniques.
We would like to thank Training Officer Wesley Mayo for taking the time to give us a tour of the facility and for running the simulator for us!

The Highlands Police Explorers recently had the opportunity to take a tour of the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office 911 Communications Center. We also received a demonstration by Sheriff's Officer Deluca and his K-9 partner Leo.

We were joined by the newly established Atlantic Highlands Police Explorers. We welcome them to the world of Law Enforcement Exploring and look forward to working with them in the future.

Thank you to members of the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office for taking the time to show us a bit about what they do to assist local agencies like Highlands.

Today the Highlands Police Explorers participated in active threat response training. Our explorers had the opportunity to interact and engage with live role players and use simunition training fi****ms to learn about the methods and tactics used by police officers when responding to active threats. Another fun night of training ✅️
