One hundred years ago today the iconic opened to the public! Looking back over the years, we recognize the millions of travelers, hundreds of maintenance workers, toll collectors, and now bridge security workers, who are most responsible for the BMB's iconic status.
HBHV has worked for more than a decade to educate the public on the bridges of the York State Bridge Authority The culmination of our work premiered on Sunday, November 24th at the Paramount Theater in Peekskill with the showing of "Bear Mountain Bridge: the First 100 Years". Over 400 people attended the showing and a very informative panel discussion which followed the film.
Our mission is to ensure that these bridges, and most importantly, the essence and function of the Bridge Authority remains the same for the next many decades. The public, who utilize the bridges, must be the ones to ensure this most unique of public authorities continues to serve the Hudson Valley, providing the safest bridges at the lowest tolls possible for long span bridges!
We are working to make our documentary available for all to view. We will keep you posted!
