The High Springs Historical Society is seeking donations to replace the flooring in our museum, located in the original 1928 elementary school building.

The existing tiles in the 800-square-foot main area are cracked and loose. While we have volunteers ready to handle the installation labor, we need to raise $1,000 to purchase the necessary materials. This project will make the museum safer and more presentable for all our visitors.
I added photos of the floor. We placed some runners to cover some areas of the floor. The current flooring is not asbestos.

To incentivize your giving, we are offering a complimentary hat or T-shirt for every donation of $100 or more.

If you would like to support this project, you can donate in the following ways:

- In Person: We can accept debit or credit cards at the museum on Saturdays.

Hi Everyone mark your calendars:

Our next events for the High Springs Historical Society coming up are:

Open every Saturday as usual

Friday afternoon June 19th, Juneteenth 3 to 6PM at our museum including the High Springs African American Museum

Thursday July 2nd 11 AM and 4PM High Springs Library Florida 250 year anniversary, 1776 slideshow and Sante Fe Brass Quintet.

Saturday July 4th A special day of celebration at our Museum
11 to 4PM.

Tuesday August 4th evening, National Night Out hosted by the High Springs Police Department at the High Springs Civic Center.
we will set up our tent and our banner and hand out brochures.

A town crier (also known as a bellman) is a historical official employed to make public announcements.
Famous for ringing a handbell to grab attention and shouting "Oyez" (meaning "hear ye"), they served as the original news broadcasters.
Many municipalities and tourism boards still appoint official town criers for ceremonial events, civic functions, and tourist promotions.
In this case the High Springs Historical Society is a town crier to inform people of our local history and have a presentation about 1776, mainly what happened in Florida during the time of our country's founding.
Come and join us at the High Springs Library July 2nd, 11AM and 4 PM.

The Old Florida turpentine industry, or naval stores trade, was once the state's largest industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Workers tapped vast pine forests for resin to produce turpentine and rosin, which were essential for caulking wooden ships, making paints, and manufacturing household goods.The industry's legacy is deeply tied to the physical landscape and historical complexities of North and Central Florida.
The Extraction Process Catfaces & Cups: "Tree chippers" would strip patches of bark from the pine trees, creating distinctive V-shaped scars called "catfaces".
Collecting the Resin: The raw pine gum would flow down metal gutters into galvanized metal or clay pots called Herty cups.
Distillation: The harvested gum was taken to centralized camps and boiled in brick-lined stills to separate the lighter, volatile turpentine from the heavier rosin.

The Priest Theater is a beloved landmark in our community. Supported by The Heart of High Springs, the Priest Theater Restoration Initiative is currently working to restore, expand, and reactivate this historic site. Built in 1910, the theater has long served as a vital cultural anchor for downtown High Springs.
