Followers, we are at 599 followers right now.
The Historical Society had to create a new page a year and a half ago. Since then we have grown in visitors to the museum. 2025 we had over 1000 visitors. We have had over 500 the first six months this year. I believe we will surpass last year's numbers greatly because our children school groups will visit in the fall of the year.
The Historical Society is about educating the public of our local history. If we are not operating the museum, local history will be lost.
High Springs is a very unique place. Yes we had the railroad here many years ago, but when other things are explored here, there is much more.
Starting with the indigenous people into the Spanish, French, British and finally Florida became part of the United States.
Hope to see you soon.

Our Museum behind High Springs City Hall is open every Saturday 11am to 4pm.Special tours by appointment.
Email us to schedule a tour.
Everyone is welcome, free admission, but we do recommend a donation.
We are an all-volunteer 501C3 nonprofit organization.
We rely on your generous gifts of time, talent and treasures.

The High Springs Historical Society will be participating in the upcoming Fall Festival on September 26th and 27th, featuring a large-scale model train display.

Our portable train layout will model a High Springs Circus, complete with a Big Top tent, animals, performers, and carnival rides. Three train tracks will be running with circus cars transporting the elements of the show.

Did you know that many years ago, the circus train would stop in the High Springs train yard to allow the animals to rest?

We hope to see you at the Fall Festival.

You might ask, why are you displaying pictures of an antique Manure Spreader?
I'm glad you asked. The Historical Society is always looking for more ways to inform the public about our local history.
Farming has always been a big part of it.
This manure spreader was donated to the Historical Society from a kind lady in Georgia.
Next question, what are we going to do with it?
The first thing we will do is restore it. If you have interest in helping us do that, please contact us, we can use your help.
We want to use it in the High Springs Christmas Parade. On a trailer of course.
Are you interested in history? We don't ask for more than a one day a month commitment from our volunteers. We have many projects you can help us with.
Stop by the Museum today or any Saturday 11 to 4PM.

Here is a historical piece we received. The Victor machine is a 1918 model. The way it works is you wind the crank on the side, then place the needle on the record. The sound comes out below.
The old records are made from shellac. If you drop the record on the ground they will break. The metal needles have to be replaced quite frequently.

I believe this was city transportation in Tallahassee, Florida.
There is a sign, No Smoking on the top right of the carriage.
I heard of a small town labeled as a two horse town, but here they have three horses.
