One year ago, a transition began in Les Cayes. Today, we are seeing what is possible when Haitians lead the way in protecting Haiti’s children.

The former ESPWA orphanage campus is becoming something very different: a Complex for Child Protection designed not for long-term institutional care, but to help children in crisis stabilize, heal, and move toward the care of a safe and loving family.

But this story is about much more than transforming a campus. It is about strengthening Haiti’s ability to protect its own children.

In our latest blog, hear from Overture’s Enel Andre and Wijems Sainval, along with IBESR leadership, about what has happened during this first year - the progress being made, the partnerships being strengthened, and the work that still lies ahead.

And there is an important part of this story we want our supporters to understand: Overture receives no operating funding from the Haitian government. Private donors make it possible for our Haitian team to work alongside government agencies while remaining accountable to our mission and the best interests of children.

There is much to celebrate. And there is still much to do!

This National Children’s Day, Overture joined hands with IBESR and members of the GTPE-Sud in southern Haiti with a shared goal: ensuring that every child grows up safe, valued, and protected.

Through community events across southern Haiti and at the Child Protection Complex in Les Cayes, children learned about their rights. Parents and teachers came together to strengthen protection for the most vulnerable. Local leaders stepped forward to build lasting child protection and parent committees. And communities declared with one voice that every child deserves to grow up safe, valued, and surrounded by hope.

In May, we were honored to welcome Vanessa Frazier, United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, to the Child Protection Complex in Les Cayes, Haiti.

Her visit was a powerful moment of encouragement and hope as she witnessed firsthand the efforts being made to protect and restore the lives of vulnerable children impacted by violence and instability in Haiti. Together with partners, government leaders, and child protection advocates, we remain committed to creating pathways toward healing, dignity, family reintegration, and long-term restoration for every child.

Ms. Frazier’s visit reinforces the urgent need for coordinated action and continued investment in child protection, rehabilitation, education, and economic empowerment opportunities for Haiti’s children and families.

At Overture International, we believe every child deserves safety, love, and the opportunity to thrive within a family and community. We are grateful for this meaningful visit and for all those standing alongside Haiti’s children during this critical time.
