October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Domestic violence is the use of physical force to control and torture a partner, spouse, or children. We wear purple to bring awareness and show support for DV victims and survivors. “It’s not the bruises on the body that hurt the most. It is the wounds of the heart and the scars on the mind.” Protect yourself – break the cycle of abuse.

October is Bullying Prevention Awareness Month and Delta Kappa Zeta Youth Auxiliaries are sharing information about Bullying Prevention Awareness. Please stay tuned as these lovely young ladies share information throughout the week.

Monday’s Memo- Awareness Starts with YOU!

There are several types of bullying:

Verbal bullying is saying or writing mean things. Verbal bullying includes:
-Teasing
-Name-calling
-Inappropriate sexual comments
-Taunting
-Threatening to cause harm

Social bullying, sometimes referred to as relational bullying, involves hurting someone’s reputation or relationships. Social bullying includes:
-Leaving someone out on purpose
-Telling other children not to be friends with someone
-Spreading rumors about someone
-Embarrassing someone in public

Physical bullying involves hurting a person’s body or possessions. Physical bullying includes:
-Hitting/kicking/pinching
-Spitting
-Tripping/pushing
-Taking or breaking someone’s things
-Making mean or rude hand gestures

Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place over digital devices like cell phones, computers, and tablets. Cyberbullying can occur through:
-SMS Text and apps
-online in social media
-forums
-gaming where people can view, participate in, or share content.

Our Sorors and Zeta Male Network members are taking advantage of One-Stop Early Voting, which allows registered voters to cast their ballots at any designated early voting location within their county of residence.

Yesterday’s North Carolina State Leadership Retreat in Greensboro was empowering and uplifting! We were reminded that there is power in rest, it’s okay to say NO, and we cannot pour from an empty cup. Taking care of ourselves is essential to the work we are called to do.

A special thank-you to the members of Delta Kappa Zeta! We are a working chapter, and our sisters showed up ready to serve! Every registered DKZ member took time to volunteer throughout the retreat. Our sisters were so busy serving each day that we couldn’t gather everyone for a chapter picture! 💙🤍

As their Basileus, I am grateful for their willingness to give their time, support the work, and represent our chapter with purpose. Sisterhood shines through our actions, and these sisters let theirs shine!

Congratulations to DKZ’s own, Dr. Veronica Sills, her administrative team, and the retreat planning team on a wonderful retreat! Also, DKZ’s own NC Chair of the Board Deneen Clarke for an amazing Executive Board Retreat.

A heartfelt thank-you to chapter soror Rev. LaTanya Pender for her “Sacred Self-Care” session. You reminded us that caring for our temple deserves the same intention we give to caring for others.
