What happens to litter after it leaves our streets? It doesn’t just disappear.

Rainwater can carry trash into storm drains, local creeks and eventually the reservoirs that supply our drinking water. That’s why keeping our streets clean is about more than appearances. It’s about protecting our waterways and our community.

Through education, community action and a little help from Foxy and Roxy, we’re working to keep litter out of High Point’s streets and streams.

We can't wait for Preservation North Carolina ’s Annual Conference, coming to High Point Oct. 25–27!

The program will take attendees through the city’s Quaker roots, historic neighborhoods, industrial buildings, Black history landmarks and evolving Main Street, while also offering a closer look at places shaping Southwest High Point’s future.

From the former Melrose Hosiery Mill at Cohab.Space to Market Square, South Main Street, and historic homes along High Street, the program explores what it means to preserve a place while giving it room to grow.

Which type of development gives a community more value for the land it uses?

A large property may pay more in total property taxes, but that is only part of the picture. Spread-out development often requires more roads, water and sewer lines, power lines, and stormwater systems.

Urban3 compares properties based on the tax value they generate per acre. This helps communities see which development patterns make the most efficient use of land and public infrastructure.

Compact neighborhoods and downtown buildings can generate more value per acre while using infrastructure more efficiently.
