We have some rescued cats to show off this week from our ODM family! Meet Nigel Krueger and Karrie, both rescues under the loving house of Kitchen Manager Alyssa.

Here's what she says about them: "They work as ADT security at our house; they don't like anyone but the residents (my husband, daughter and me) of the house. None of my friends knew we had two cats for over a year 'cause no one had ever seen Nigel."

Please don't hide in the comments like Nigel does and show these cool rescues some love! We are so glad to share more of our ODM family with everyone.

Meet the lovely Alyssa, our kitchen manager! She's the one organizing what meals get cooked for the public based on what we have in our kitchen's pantry and closet. Sometimes, day-of donations are used as treats!

Alyssa says, "I spend most of my time with my daughter. She's into gymnastics and swimming. We spend a lot of time in the pool. But my favorite part of the job is being able to learn a lot about High Point. I'm originally from Chicago. I'm in grad school for clinical counseling so it's been a big help."

We love what she does!

We are so grateful to for a donation of bags with hygiene items such as washcloths, bags and razors inside. During these sticky summer months, our residents are sure to be grateful for the items and the confidence it'll help them mantain!

Andrew, our shelter director says, "[The residents] are going to be so surprised and thankful when they come back for [the night]."

We got some milk! 60 gallons worth! A special thanks to Helping Hands High Point, Inc. in High Point for this donation and those who helped us load the van.

We are so grateful to have neighbors such as yourselves.

After years of research, planning, community engagement, and leadership by Open Door Ministries (ODM) and its Care Center Steering Committee, the Community Care Center (Day Center) Initiative is entering an important new phase focused on broader community-led initiative focused on implementation. Through the support of a private donor, an independent facilitator has been appointed to help guide this next phase.

Our building at 400 N Centennial Street will undergo maintenance.

For the safety of our staff, guests, and volunteers, the admin office, food pantry, and emergency assistance will be closed on Monday.
Father’s Table and the Men’s Shelter will operate on schedule.

This Wednesday, it was our deepest pleasure running with our High Point neighbors at the Fleet Feet "The Big Run" 2026, in benefit of Open Door Ministries. The runners and businesses in the Heron village blessed us with generous advocacy and donations, which goes to support our community directly.

WHATABURGER! Thursday was National Hamburger Day, we received a generous donation of 100 build-it-yourself hamburger from the High Point Whataburger. These kits were filled with their care for our fellow neighbors who are experiencing homelessness. Thank you, Whataburger!

Today, we meet Shelter Director Andrew's little pet! She's a mix between a Chihuahua and Schnauzer and is absolutely full of love.

"She loves to play in the park and loves riding in the car. She is great with children, and she loves to be rubbed on her temples and back. When you see Kenleigh, give her a bacon treat and she'll stand on her two back legs."

Be sure that some of us are eager to sneak some treats to her.
