“I believe there’s a narrative, not just visually when you look at my piece, but how these mediums come together. I think there’s a beauty of it.”

Zsuzsi Winn, High Point-based multidisciplinary artist, has always had reverence for art, nature and craftsmanship. Born in Budapest, Hungary, Zsuzsi was raised in a creative family.

After relocating to New York, Zsuzsi began to build her career in the home decor industry. Her journey began as an art director and interior photo stylist. Now, Zsuzsi has fully dedicated herself to fine art, developing a signature style that blends painted landscapes and hand-painted ceramics, inspired by European craftsmanship and nature.

“When someone comes to my studio, they are inspired by the visual scene that I paint, but then the conversation goes further.”

Zsuzsi has her studio here, at Cohab. Recently, she partnered with JH Adams Inn to open her own art gallery within one of High Point’s most iconic historic landmarks.

“Light is the unifying force, transforming everything it touches by banishing darkness and encouraging renewal.”

Scott Upton, abstract-painter, explores the emotional impact of color and light in his work, inspired by nature’s beauty and power.

Based in western North Carolina, Scott focuses on how light transforms the world, as it symbolizes hope and renewal. “I’ve always maintained that my work is about color and light and their effect on our emotions.”

Scott wants to convey the emotional impact of change, time, weather and light. He does this by employing a variety of techniques, “I lay down rich fields of color, enhanced by many layers of transparent glazes. To intensify the effects of depth and mystery, I may use a foundation of metal leaf or applied textures. After building up a surface I then scar it or even scrape it away only to cover it over again with a new layer.”
