Enlace Latino NC is a nonprofit journalism organization which empowers the diverse community of Latine immigrants in North Carolina to become more involved in the political and social changes that affect them. They do that by publishing independent, non-partisan, public service journalism in Spanish.

With funding from Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, along with support from The Foundation for Healthy High Point, Cone Health Foundation and Report for America, ELNC has recently published a guide to healthcare services called Guía Sana. Guía Sana brings together essential information on how to navigate healthcare services and support individual and family well-being. It includes resources on preventive care, mental health, sexual and reproductive health, and occupational health, with a focus on farmworkers. The guide also features a county-based directory connecting users with clinics, organizations, and services available in their communities.

Information is organized and searchable in several ways, including by county. ELNC is working on comprehensive information for Guilford County and High Point. Please check often, as updates are being made regularly!

The T21 (To***co 21) coalition is a group which advocates for stronger laws, age limits, and community health education around the health impacts of to***co use – particularly for youth. Tomorrow – April 28th – T21 will be in Raleigh to talk with state legislators about these concerns and the proposed “Solly’s Law” which would raise the age for to***co-related purchases to 21 years.

JOIN LIVE to watch the press conference at 10 a.m. LINK BELOW

Solomon Wynn, or Solly, died in 2023 from complications directly related to va**ng. Solly would be graduating from high school this spring. He was 15 years old. Solly’s Law aims to add North Carolina to the growing list of states which have strengthened protections for youth against to***co use and addiction.

• North Carolina’s teen va**ng rate is double the national average.
• North Carolina is one of only 6 states where you can legally buy vapes, ci******es, ci**rs, ni****ne pouches, and other ni****ne products at age 18. The others raised the age to 21 to match the federal age limit, established in 2019.
• North Carolina is one of only 8 states that doesn’t require a permit to sell these products, which makes it difficult for law enforcement to enforce the laws we do have.

More than 30 youth will attend the event in Raleigh tomorrow to share their perspectives on to***co use with lawmakers. We recommend logging in between 9:30 and 10 a.m. Wednesday 4/28/26.

We know that teenage youth have always had their share of challenges, but it often seems that today’s teens have an unprecedented load to bear. From our neighbors in Winston-Salem to ongoing local food, housing, and social challenges – it is simply harder than ever to navigate the internal and external changes that our young community members must face on a daily basis.

Fortunately there are many individuals and organizations across our state who are raising the flag around youth mental health – offering programs, counseling, support and education for teens and families. A great example is this upcoming program from High Point Housing Authority (HPHA).

Feel free to share with others in your circle.

The North Carolina Alliance for Health (NCAH) is an independent and fully nonpartisan, statewide coalition of individuals, organizations, health providers and others - dedicated to improving North Carolina’s health. The NC Alliance serves to mobilize and support their partners in advancing equitable policies which reduce health disparities, prevent chronic disease, and promote health.

Right now, one of the primary concerns for many health advocates across the State is the protection of Medicaid for everyone who needs it. As an individual, you can contribute by sharing your personal story. Whether you are a healthcare provider who sees the importance of having coverage through Medicaid for your patients or a person who is currently enrolled in Medicaid for your health coverage, or any other individual who has something to contribute to the ways in which Medicaid supports residents across our state – NCAH wants to hear from you!
