Hello everyone! My name is Chris Bennett and I am thrilled to be running in my second NYC Marathon with Team FARA! I am doing this for my two older brothers Dj and Tyler Bennett who live with the struggles of FA everyday. They are two of the strongest people I know and I will do anything in my power to help this cause! Every dollar donated helps and my family and I appreciate these kind gestures. Lets raise the roof on this fundraising page this year and spread awareness of Friedreich's Ataxia!
Team FARA raises awareness and funds to support the urgent pace of research with the aim of finding treatments and cures for Friedreich's ataxia (FA). FA is a genetic, progressive neuromuscular disease. People with FA experience issues with balance and coordination of movement that lead to life-altering loss of mobility. Other common symptoms can include fatigue, serious heart conditions, scoliosis, and diabetes. FA is life-shortening and affects an estimated 5,000 individuals in the United States and 15,000 worldwide.
The Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to the pursuit of scientific research leading to treatments and a cure for Friedreich’s ataxia.
FARA's Mission is to marshal and focus the resources and relationships needed to cure FA by raising funds for research, promoting public awareness, and aligning scientists, patients, clinicians, government agencies, pharmaceutical companies and other organizations dedicated to curing FA and related diseases.
