🚩 RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT 🚩
It’s already shaping up to be a hot day in Hidden Valley Lake, and critical fire weather conditions mean now is the time to prepare. During Red Flag Warning events, hot temperatures, low humidity, and gusty winds can cause fires to spread rapidly.
Take a few minutes today to do an ember check around your home:
• Clear leaves and debris from roofs, gutters, and around your home’s foundation.
• Close windows, garage doors, and pet doors.
• Move potted plants, trash cans, wood piles, outdoor furniture, doormats, and other combustible items away from your home.
• Ensure vents are protected with proper mesh screening.
• Attach garden hoses that can reach all sides of your home.
• Keep your family, pets, and evacuation go-kits ready.
• Make sure vehicles are fueled or fully charged.
• Charge your cell phone and monitor emergency alerts.
• Stay hydrated and keep landscaping watered where appropriate.
• Check on your neighbors, especially those who may need assistance.
Activities to Avoid During a Red Flag Warning:
• Do not use barbecues, fire pits, or any outdoor open flames.
• Avoid using power tools or equipment that may create sparks.
• Do not smoke outdoors.
• Never park or drive in dry grass or vegetation.
• Use extra caution while recreating outdoors.
Remember: Close It. Clear It. Move It.
The small steps you take today can help protect your home, your neighbors, and our community. Stay aware, stay prepared, and report any signs of smoke or fire immediately by calling 911.
