In North Carolina – it is legal and possible for transgender adults to access gender-affirming care, but we're seeing community reports of new barriers to care for transgender adults in the state, including some clinics preemptively stopping the provision of gender-affirming hormone therapy for adults, despite no law requiring them to do so. The Campaign for Southern Equality believes that healthcare is a human right, and we are providing navigation support for transgender adults in North Carolina who have experienced an interruption in care. That coworker who knows your whole life because you've spent 900 hours standing beside each other.

The one who asks about Pride every year.

The one who's been an ally.

The one who might be LGBTQ+ and hasn't found much community outside work.

Just ask.

The people who read everything and rarely comment.

The people who aren't at every event.

The people who don't have a big group of LGBTQ+ friends.

The ones who may be wondering if anybody would even notice if they came.

We would.

Reach out to somebody today.

Privately.

“If you want to come to Pride, you can come with us.”

Fourteen words can change somebody's whole experience of this community.

Today I'm asking you to personally invite five people.

Not tags.

Not shares.

Five messages.

“Hey, we're going to Pride September 19. I'd love for you to come.”

That's it.

If 100 of us do that today, that's 500 invitations moving through this community.

That's grassroots.

That's how we've always found each other.

Here's today's assignment:

Invite somebody outside your normal circle.

Not the same five people you always go everywhere with.

Someone new.

Someone you've met recently.

Someone who has been looking for community.

Someone who might not even know Pride happens right here at home.

That's how this grows.

Not by making our circles bigger around the same people.

By opening them.

I'm calling on our allies today.

The moms and dads.

The brothers and sisters.

The coworkers.

The neighbors.

The pastors.

The teachers.

The friends who have loved us, defended us and stood beside us.

Come to Pride.

Not because you need to speak for us.

Come stand with us.

Sometimes the most powerful thing an LGBTQ+ person can see is somebody they love standing in the crowd saying without saying a word:

“I'm not going anywhere.”

Somewhere nearby is someone who has never been to Pride.

Maybe they've wanted to go for years.

Maybe crowds make them nervous.

Maybe they don't know anybody.

Maybe they're still figuring themselves out.

Maybe walking through that entrance alone feels impossible.

So don't make them.

Find a first-timer and say:

“You don't have to figure it out. Come with me.”

Sometimes belonging begins with somebody waiting for you at the gate.

Hey hey! It’s Leo here! Did you know, we are 30 days from Pride?

So I’m asking something of you.

Don’t just share this post. Call somebody.

Think about the person you haven’t seen in a while. The one who used to come around. The one who’s new here. The one who doesn’t know many people. The one who always says, “I might come,” but never does.

Tell them you’re going. Tell them to come with you.

We built this community by finding each other. We still do.
