Happy New Year!

2026 - How did you start the New Year?

GCB had the privilege to start this week with the CRCNA staff in devotions. We worked through part of the first lesson in Discover Philippians together.

The way that this letter was written, the posture behind it, and the discussion we had were all good "food for thought" and truth to hold as we enter 2026!

What are you beginning?
Who are you inviting?
What truth are you holding?

"The Christmas story really is a light story. No, not the lights that decorate the city where you live, the lights that you have carefully hung on the tree in your living room, or the candles that you have placed in your windows. No, this story is about the light coming into a world that had been sadly cast into darkness .... God's solution was the only way. He sent the One who is light to be the light that would light the world by his grace. He came into the darkness so that we could know light and life forever. Here is the Christmas story -- only light can defeat the darkness, and light has come!" - Paul David Tripp

John 1:1-18
The Word Became Flesh

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.

There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

(John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

The fourth advent candle - Love

With the fourth candle of love being lit this week, one could perceive that love can flicker or be snuffed out at the first puff of difficulty. Yet the Bible shows us another kind of love – an enduring, forgiving and light-giving love.

We pray that you may experience and share the great love of Jesus as we near the celebration of our Savior's birth.

The fourth candle, LOVE ❤️

With the fourth candle of love being lit this week, one could perceive that love can flicker or be snuffed out at the first puff of difficulty. Yet the Bible shows us another kind of love – an enduring, forgiving and light-giving love.

We pray that you may experience and share the great love of Jesus as we near the celebration of our Savior's birth.
