KANSAS LEGAL SERVICES TO OFFER INSIGHTFUL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
The Northeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging and the Trinity Center have engaged Kansas Legal Services- the legal aid organization for Kansas- to provide a series of monthly public education sessions on the second Fridays of March, April, May and June from 10:30-12:00 at the Trinity Center, 101 S. 3 rd St, Hiawatha (just east of Amberwell Hospital). The programs are intended to create more confidence in participants to take charge of their personal business and safeguard themselves.

June 12 th Grandparents Raising Grandchildren- There are many challenges when taking on the full-time caregiving responsibility of grandchildren. This presentation will address common legal issues such as authority to act on a minors behalf in school,
medical decisions, or for their welfare.

Center, 410 East Iowa St, Hiawatha.

Distribution for Brown County residents is first come,
first-served and income based.

**Kickapoo Community Elders**
**Elder Abuse Awareness Event**

Join us on Monday, June 15, 2026, for a walk and a presentation to raise awareness about elder abuse. We encourage everyone to wear purple to support this important cause.

The Northeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging will be present to provide resources and support.

If you or a cherished elder suspect abuse, please take action. In an emergency, call 911. For non-emergency situations, contact the Kickapoo Police Department at 785-742-7125, Kickapoo Social Services at 785-285-9190, or the Adult Protective Services of the Kansas Department for Children and Families at 1-888-922-5330.

We were honored to have Maren Lagaly from the Office of Rural Prosperity at Kansas Department of Commerce stop by the HFED office last week to officially present us with a $25,000 check for the SEED Grant.

We are excited to accept this grant on behalf of Northeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging to be used to provide tables and booths for its new cafe which is set to open at its new facility in a few months!
