The goats love watermelon 🍉! It’s been very hot here for many days. We are all ready for some fall weather but it doesn’t look like that is in the forecast for a while. All the rescued goats are doing well despite the heat. I need to remember that soon I’ll be complaining about winter!

Wishlist Wednesday! 🐐❤️

The rescued goats go through a LOT of hay and feed, and the Chewy Wishlist with some of the most used items is always in need of a little love!

Two of the things I use the most for the rescued goats are Goat Granola and boxes of Timothy Hay or Orchard Grass. These may seem like simple things, but they are a huge part of keeping the rescued goats happy, healthy, and well fed. ❤️

The goat pictured here is Holly. Her story is one that makes my heart ache.

Holly was rescued after she was run over on a busy road and left to suffer for several months without help. She had to drag her crushed back legs through rough fields and along roads, trying to keep up with the other goats while searching for food and water.

At some point, Holly had a baby that was never found. 💔

Thankfully, Holly’s story didn’t end there. She made it to Ruby Slipper Goat Rescue, where she is safe, loved, and home forever. ❤️

Just sharing my favorite baby Patrick photo from about 6 years ago! Patrick was the fastest baby ever in his wheelchair! He lived in my house for 5 months and was as ornery as he could be! He was able to move outside when I rescued his sweet best friend, Buttercup. Sadly, Buttercup passed away. Patrick is not as speedy anymore but still ornery! He is often found snuggling with his best friend Andy when he is not begging for treats.

Pixie was born with a panda on her coat, so I figured she deserved a panda of her own.

This week she got one… and she absolutely loves it.

Pixie came to Ruby Slipper Goat Rescue after a traumatic injury as a baby left her missing parts of both back legs. She has overcome so much, but is so happy and content.

Seeing her curl up with her new panda bear or one of her other stuffed animals for a nap is the sweetest thing!

Sometimes healing looks like wheelchairs and prosthetics. Sometimes it looks like a stuffed panda and a peaceful nap. ❤️🐐🐼

Patrick is only one of the many rescued goats who have taught me more than I could ever teach them. I’m so grateful that I am able to be a part of their story and give them a life they deserve.

I thank everyone who has believed in Ruby Slipper Goat Rescue over the years. Thank you to the Hiawatha Community Foundation and the generous donors for supporting organizations like Ruby Slipper Goat Rescue and helping me continue to give these goats a place to feel safe, loved, and cared for. It truly means more than you know.

Sometimes heroes wear boots instead of capes. ❤️

Patrick lounges on a stuffed bear these days, but his story didn't begin that way. Rescued after a devastating injury left him paralyzed, he found a second chance at Ruby Slipper Goat Rescue.

Patrick is just one of many animals whose lives have been changed through the compassion of Lisa Thompson and Ruby Slipper Goat Rescue, one of the charitable funds at the Hiawatha Community Foundation.

For nearly ten years, they've been giving vulnerable animals something every living thing deserves: safety, care, and hope.

Thank you, Lisa, for reminding us that kindness changes lives, one rescue at a time.

Meet Harold… the goat who started it all.

In 2016, Harold was found wandering the streets of St. Joseph, Missouri. He was taken to an animal shelter where he was put up for bid to the highest bidder.

I couldn’t let that be his story.

I made sure I was the highest bidder, brought Harold home, and he became the very first rescued goat at Ruby Slipper Goat Rescue.

And yes… Harold is still here!

Today, he’s about 15 years old. He’s lost all of his teeth, takes life at a slower pace, and enjoys plenty of naps in the shade. He’s earned every bit of it.

Truth be told, we’re both getting older. Harold has lost his teeth, and I’ve found a few more gray hairs. But we’re still going strong together.

Looking at Harold reminds me how one act of kindness can change everything. One goat led to a rescue that’s now given so many disabled, neglected, and unwanted goats a place to call home.

Harold didn’t just become the first rescue—he became the reason Ruby Slipper Goat Rescue exists.

Here’s to growing old together, my sweet friend Harold.
