For the EUPMTA: Congratulations on a season well played. Some Clubs managing personal bests, Some managing status quo through mechanical difficulties. Everyone got to deal with the weather, so I won't go into that.
THANK YOU to the EUPMTA member clubs that linked to the EUPMTA page.
With its own linking's on social media, it enjoyed modest growth through the season and greatly facilitated the passing of trail conditions and groomer information. Whether you were associated with "Groomer Tracker" or not, we (EUPMTA) shared tons of important info as well as time sensitive information through social media.

Grid: 46.10034 -84.99336 this was the location of this recovery.
Bear Creek Swamp Trail 2 East if you're heading east from the River Rd.
The casualty was about halfway to Blaney.
The area involved is a biomass bog. IT DOESNT FREEZE. The groomer makes an ice bridge (sort of) over it all AFTER the sled traffic has packed it in. Probably a wise choice to not go into there until the SCMTA gives a positive report.

This came in my email as a reminder:

Dear Karen:

Your organization has been identified as potentially having an interest in state forest roads and potential use of state forest roads by off-road vehicles. The Department of Natural Resources would like to inform you about the intent to close certain forest roads to conventional vehicles, close certain roads to use by ORVs or open certain forest roads to ORVs on State of Michigan land. The specific proposed changes and road locations will be available for viewing in detail on Nov. 1 by visiting Michigan.gov/ForestRoads. Some of these proposed changes may be of interest to you or the members of your organization.

The need for the proposed changes in forest road status has been determined based on DNR staff site reviews and comments received from the public. Additional details can be found by visiting the website.

Comments may be submitted by Dec. 1, by using the interactive map found on the website or via email to [email protected]. The formal informational memo to the DNR director will be submitted at the scheduled January 2026 Natural Resources Commission meeting. Following that, the final Land Use Order of the Director will be submitted for action by the director at the February 2026 NRC meeting. Comments will also be received at each of the NRC meetings.

Thank you for your continued interest in the management of state-owned lands.

If you have any questions, please contact Mark Monroe, forest road project manager, at 989-983-4101 (office) or 989-329-9827 (cell)

Public invited to comment on proposed state forest road map updates by Dec. 1

A series of proposed updates to Michigan’s state forest roads is now open for public review and comment. These map changes are aimed at ensuring responsible, sustainable management of the state’s extensive forest road network.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources regularly reviews and updates the state forest road inventory to keep it accurate and aligned with current regulations. This year’s proposed changes are based on field assessments conducted by DNR staff and an in-depth review of public feedback collected throughout the year.

Why are updates needed?
Each year, the DNR conducts a comprehensive review of Michigan’s state forest roads to maintain the quality and accessibility of these routes while protecting the natural resources they connect. The review process also helps ensure the DNR continues to respond to changing conditions, evolving recreational use and community input.

Additional state trails or roads may be closed as a result of the historic northern Michigan ice storm that took place in March 2025. Over 3,400 miles of state roads were affected by the storm, and storm debris cleanup is an ongoing effort.

Under Public Act 288 of 2016, off-road vehicle use is allowed on state forest roads unless otherwise designated by the DNR. The law also requires ongoing mapping and inventory of these roads. It’s important to note that this review applies only to state forest roads and does not affect ORV use on other roads, such as those managed by counties or townships.

Proposed updates may include:

Mapping roads that were previously unmapped or removing roads that no longer exist.
Opening or closing roads for conventional (street-legal) vehicle use.
Opening or closing roads for off-road vehicle use.
Adjusting seasonal access on certain roads.
Share feedback by Dec. 1
The DNR invites the public to review the proposed updates and share input by Dec. 1 through any of the following options:

Online: Visit Michigan.gov/ForestRoads to view an interactive map or download printable PDF versions of the proposed updates.
Email: Send comments directly to [email protected].
Public comments also will be accepted during upcoming Michigan Natural Resources Commission meetings in early 2026. The proposed updates will be presented for review at the commission’s January and February meetings, with a formal decision expected from the DNR director at the February meeting.

Updated state forest road maps, incorporating public feedback and management input, will be published online and take effect April 1, 2026
