“When children study music, they are developing the part of their brains they use for language and reasoning. Music education is linked to spatial intelligence and creativity. It requires listening, then learning how to weave disparate ideas. Again and again, research shows music education is a critical component of the overall learning process.”

Budget cuts forced New Haven schools to cut music, but the community stepped up to save it.

Good Friday morning!! It was so wonderful to see some of you yesterday as you came to pick up your things! Wish I could have seen all of you!! Copy Cat and I celebrated yesterday’s last day of school by having a bonfire with our family. Copy Cat suggested that I read the next book to you by the fire. What a great idea!! Here it is, from the fireside, “The Music Teacher from the Black Lagoon.” Keep checking back for more read aloud and fun activities for the summer!!

On this "last day of school" I wanted to post one of the students most requested video. They loved watching this. "Make 'Em Laugh" is a musical number from this year's Hesperia musical, "Singin' In the Rain." As I introduced all the music students to the musical, this started to come to the front as one of their favorite videos. The dancing in this number is incredible. And it will make you laugh!! Enjoy Donald O'Connor and his mad dancing skills!!

From a recently surfaced 1080p High-Definition digital transfer of Singin' in the Rain (1952). Let's hope Warner decides to release a restored version of thi...
