For Christian Calle '09, being Latino means family, language, culture, food, and a sense of belonging.

Growing up in Queens in a Colombian household, Christian learned Spanish before English and was surrounded by Colombian music, traditions, and culture. Today, being bilingual has become an important part of his career in the construction industry, helping him build stronger connections, communicate more effectively, and become a better leader.

Now, as a father, Christian and his Peruvian wife are proudly passing their cultures on to their two daughters through Spanish, food, music, traditions, and family.

For Christian, Hispanic Heritage Month is about honoring where we come from, recognizing the sacrifices of those before us, and making sure the next generation is proud of their roots. 🇨🇴❤️

Nellie Logan (Gonzalez.) c/o 1990 is a proud Colombian American and Afro-Latina whose heritage has always been an important part of who she is.

Raised bilingual and deeply connected to her Colombian roots, Nellie celebrates the culture, traditions, and identity that shaped her. While people may not always recognize her as Hispanic at first glance, she proudly embraces every part of her heritage.

For Nellie, Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to celebrate that identity with pride and honor the culture she loves.

“I’m proud to relate to everything Colombian. I consider myself Afro-Latina, but first and foremost, I’m Colombian before anything else. I celebrate this month with great pride!”

In honor of , we’re proud to highlight Milton Hershey School alumnus Alan Zunun! 🎓✨

As a first-generation Latino, Alan grew up balancing two worlds—acting as a translator, advocate, and student for his family while learning to navigate a new country. His time at MHS helped shape his path, instilling lessons in resilience, self-advocacy, and pride in his heritage.

Today, Alan has built a successful finance career in Business Controls Operations and serves as a leadership Chair for HOLA (Hispanic Organization for Leadership Advancement), leading financial literacy and community outreach programs across Delaware and Philadelphia.

"Hispanic Heritage Month is a reminder that our culture, resilience, and stories are strengths," says Alan. "I’m proud of where I come from, grateful for the foundation MHS provided, and committed to helping create opportunities for the next generation to succeed."

Thank you, Alan, for leading by example and empowering the next generation! 🌟

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Dr. Anthony J. Colistra ’59, Milton Hershey School alumnus, former President of the MHS Alumni Association, and former President of Milton Hershey School.

There is something especially poignant about the timing of his passing. As generations of Spartans gathered together in Hershey to celebrate Homecoming, Dr. Colistra went home.

We honor his life of service, his leadership, and his lifelong devotion to Milton Hershey School and our Association.
