Did You Know?

When you walk into Founders Hall, it's hard to miss the state flags circling the rotunda. They do more than add color to the space—they tell part of the Milton Hershey School story.

Here are a few facts you may not know:

⭐ The original 50 state flags were purchased by the MHS Alumni Association and donated to Milton Hershey School when Founders Hall opened.

⭐ The flags are updated each school year to reflect the states represented by the current student population.

⭐ Those original flags remained on display from September 13, 1971 until the building's most recent renovation.

⭐ And here's a fun fact: to the best of our knowledge, MHS has never had students from all 50 states enrolled at the same time.

Every flag represents students, families, and journeys from across the country—all coming together as one MHS community.

Did you know this piece of MHS history? If you're an alumnus, tell us what state was represented by your hometown when you attended MHS!

As we enter graduation season, many Milton Hershey School alumni are reflecting on the day they crossed the stage and began a new chapter of their lives.

Every graduating class has its own memories, traditions, and distinguished commencement speakers. For the Class of 1995, June 4, 1995 was made even more memorable by an address from Coretta Scott King, whose words about leadership, service, and making a difference in the world continue to inspire.

Now we'd love to hear from our alumni community!

128 years ago today Milton Snavely Hershey wed Catherine Elizabeth Sweeny in the rectory of St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. Assistant Rector Reverend Thomas F. Murphy performed the service, with Francis Foley and Alice McKenna served as witnesses.

The marriage was a surprise to family and friends and not just because Milton was Mennonite and Catherine was Catholic. Milton Hershey himself believed he was destined to be a bachelor forever.

The Hershey's originally lived in Lancaster, PA. Eventually High Point Mansion was built. High Point was the final home of Mr. & Mrs. Hershey. You will find their marriage license prominently displayed on the second floor.
