🔨 Building Skills, Leadership, and Service 🔨
The Hershey Rotary Club recently welcomed Robert “Bob” Brightbill, Instructor for the Building Construction Technology Program at Dauphin County Technical School, along with students Alyssa, Tucker, and Tami, who shared their experiences in the school’s Building Construction Cares program.
Since 2008, Bob has led Building Construction Cares with a vision that extends well beyond the classroom. Through his leadership, students have learned not only the technical skills of the construction trades but also the importance of service, teamwork, leadership, and giving back to others. While Bob humbly shares the accomplishments of his students, it is clear that his dedication and commitment have helped shape a program that has impacted countless lives.
Building Construction Cares provides students with hands-on experience through meaningful community projects. Most recently, students traveled to Cobb County, Georgia, where they replaced a roof for a family in need while developing skills that cannot be duplicated in a traditional classroom setting.
To date, the program has completed 19 service trips, assisted 51 families, involved 198 student volunteers, and traveled more than 18,000 miles in service to others. These accomplishments are a testament to the hard work of the students, the support of Dauphin County Technical School, and Bob’s unwavering commitment to preparing young people for successful futures.
As an added bonus to the day, Alyssa was the lucky winner of our weekly 50/50 drawing, with proceeds supporting Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign.
Thank you to Bob, Alyssa, Tucker, and Tami for sharing how career and technical education can transform lives while demonstrating the true meaning of Service Above Self.
