This week in May is designated as Emergency Medical Services Week!!! The Herreid Fire Department wants to thank all of our EMTs, paramedics, and all the EMS personnel! We especially are grateful for our local EMTs and ambulance crew who we work together with on so many emergency situations!

Yesterday evening, the Herreid and Po***ck Fire Departments responded to a brush and crop stubble fire located southwest of Westfield, ND. A quick response time, teamwork between neighboring fire departments, and local farmers utilizing some disc work led to a positive outcome with a fire that was contained fairly quickly despite windy conditions. With no significant moisture in the forecast, and the wind always being a constant, the conditions will remain ripe for more grass fires. We pray for moisture and thank our fellow volunteer firefighters for their vigilance in protecting the property and people of our surrounding area.

The Herreid Fire Department had a busy and productive night this past Monday! M & T Supply out of Volga, SD was on hand to fit our department with new Wildland and extracation gear! The vast majority of emergency calls handled by the HFD involve grass, hay, and brush fires, as well as accident response! We are appreciative of the Fire District and taxpayer support in obtaining this much needed gear. We were also given a demonstration on the use of battery operated struts. These are invaluable at accident scenes and in many other situations that a firefighter may encounter. After being fitted for new gear and the other demonstrations, the firefighters drove the trucks, ran the pumps, etc. Finally, the flags were replaced on the memorial as the recent winds had wreaked havoc on them. We fly the flags to honor our great nation as well as all those who have served and are currently serving as a First Responders and Military!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Lastly, a great lunch was prepared by Jesse Weisbeck and Arnie Hanson with the final touch being the availability of 5 different flavors of Dutch-made Kuchen!!!

This past Saturday there were 7 members of the Herreid Fire Department who took part in water rescue training. The training was put together by the Mobridge Fire Department. With our proximity to Lake Oahe, Spring Creek, and several nearby lakes, it was a necessary and valuable training opportunity!

The Herreid Fire Department was the beneficiary of a monetary donation courtesy of Agtegra Cooperative! Herreid location employee Christopher Seibel presented the check to Herreid Fire Department Public Relations Director Lance Vander Vorst. The Herreid Fire Department is appreciative of Agtegra's generosity and commitment to the communities they are located in! It was especially fitting to receive the check from Christopher as he is a hometown kid who came back to his roots. Chris also serves in the military and is a member of the local Sons of the American Legion Squadron! Thank you Agtegra for supporting those who serve the community!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

This evening, the Herreid Fire Department and Campbell County Ambulance hosted a Mass Casualty Training Session Table Talk. The valuable training took place at the Herreid Fire Hall. The presenters were Campbell County Emergency Management Director Layne Perman and Walworth County Emergency Management Director Jeff Jensen. There were a total of 22 firefighters, EMTs, and First Responders present for the voluntary training session. Preparation, vigilance, and protocol are essential aspects of every emergency response situation!

Congratulations to a fellow Campbell County Firefighter and a bedrock member of the Po***ck Volunteer Fire Department!!!

The South Dakota governors conference on tourism was recently held “Travel South Dakota” in Pierre and one of our very own PVFD members was honored. The award was based on customer service and outstanding hospitality for the upper northern South Dakota Missouri river region.Now if you live in or around Po***ck or ever driven through and happen to stop at Wilbert’s Service you were sure to find Todd and Norma even Tara from the wee hours of the morning too late at night probably finishing somebody’s tire that they needed the next day or boat or some type of project as you would be hard pressed to find a harder working guy in the area for sure. Think everyone would agree this award was long overdue. PVFD is lucky to have Todd as our Sec/Treas and personally Todd , Kent Meyer and Frosty are pretty much the reason I took over as acting Fire Chief guys like them don’t come around often and we built a pretty dam good team for our little town! So from the rest of the PVFD crew and im sure the whole town hell the county Thanks Todd your loyalty to the Fire Dept and your customers does not go unnoticed!👨‍🚒👩‍🚒👨‍🚒🔥🔥🔥🔥🚜🚜🚗🚗🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Camaraderie, teamwork, and team building are vital necessities for every fire department across America! Last weekend the members of the Herreid Fire Department took the opportunity to prioritize a night of good food, good friends, great fellowship, and camaraderie! The brotherhood of firefighters is a bond that the HFD shares with firefighters from across this great land!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Today, January 9, is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day! The Herreid Fire Department is fortunate that two of our firefighters are also involved in local law enforcement. We want to thank State Highway Patrol Trooper Kenny Wientjes and Campbell County Sheriff's Deputy Curtis Shields for their dedication to protecting and serving our community in the dual role of firefighter and law enforcement!!!
