Opening the year 2026, OSA officers and 5 volunteers successfully organized the first (TAS) Therapeutic Arts & Science Workshop for children and their parents. The workshop was designed to support children’s holistic growth by integrating therapeutic arts and science-based activities that encourage creativity, emotional expression, and positive engagement.

A total of eleven children, actively supported by their parents, participated in the program. Through guided activities and collaborative learning experiences, the workshop aimed to enhance children’s productivity by fostering positivity, confidence, and constructive thinking as foundational strategies for healthy growth and development.

The involvement of parents and volunteers further reinforced these objectives, strengthening the learning environment and promoting sustained positive outcomes beyond the workshop setting.

Oysters Sand Arbor (OSA) #810, conducted a joint effort with (5) officers present, (2) members and (3) volunteers.

A small check donation of $400 was provided to the Greater Springfield Fire Station. Spearheaded by OSA President, Dra. January Dumlao-Umayam, OSA #810 braved a cold winter morning to spend time with the amazing fire team at the Greater Springfield Fire Station. 🔥🚒 We thanked the Fire Team for their round-the-clock dedication, teamwork, and training that keep our community safe every day. We loved the chance to listen, learn, and see the passion the Fire Team has. We appreciated the opportunity to spend time with them this Christmas season—it was clear they genuinely love the work they do and take great pride in serving our community with their highly-equipped Fire Rigs. 👏❤️

Members/officers are committed to strengthening the participation of volunteers and involvement in other non-profit organizations within the communities.

Uniting for a Purpose
This November, the spirit of togetherness shines brightly as Oysters Sand Arbor, the Gleaner Life’s Service Club in Virginia, and She Believes in Me (SBIM) come together to support Northern Virginia’s vulnerable families. Through the “Encourage. Empower. Inspire.” In the Thanksgiving meal program, these dedicated organizations are making a profound impact on the community.

Bringing Joy to Families in Need
Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude and sharing, and this heartwarming initiative embodies those values perfectly. By providing meals and holiday cheer to children and families in need, the program not only nourishes bodies but also uplifts spirits. It’s during these acts of kindness that we truly witness the essence of community—people joining hands to ensure that no one is left behind during the holiday season.

A Grateful Thank You
The event held at the Four Seasons Recreation Center was not just a meal distribution; it was a celebration of giving and togetherness. A big thank you goes out to all the volunteers, members, officers, partners, and local officials who contributed their time and effort to make this gathering festive and meaningful. Your commitment to serving others is inspiring, and such acts of service undoubtedly make a real difference in the lives of those who are struggling.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone involved and all the families served! May this season continue to remind us of the importance of generosity and community.

Joining Hands for a Noble Cause
On November 14, 2025, we had the incredible opportunity to be part of the Rise Against Hunger meal-packing event at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Springfield, VA. This experience was not only fulfilling but also inspiring, as it brought together a community of caring volunteers who shared a common goal: to make a positive impact on families in need around the world.

A Moment of Service and Togetherness
As we engaged with fellow volunteers from the Oysters Sand Arbor and the Gleaner Life Service Club, we were reminded of the strength of community and the compassion that can flourish when we unite for a greater purpose. Each packed meal represented more than just food; it symbolized hope and support for those facing hunger. The event was well-organized, and every moment spent packing meals deepened our appreciation for teamwork and collaboration.

The Power of Community Action
Experiences like the Rise Against Hunger event cultivate a spirit of shared responsibility, emphasizing how even small contributions can lead to significant changes. It was heartening to see individuals come together, equipped with the same mission of kindness and service. We left feeling grateful and inspired, with a renewed understanding of the importance of lending a hand and being part of meaningful moments in our communities. Together, we can foster compassion and ultimately work towards a world where hunger is eradicated.

Honoring One of Our Very Own – Federico Umayam

Oysters Sand Arbor, #810 in supporting the movement, National Military Appreciation Month, May 2025, spent an afternoon honoring one of our very own officers, Third Class Petty Officer United States Navy, Federico Umayam (OSA #810 – Reporter).

Eric, as he is fondly called, proudly served the USN for eight years. Throughout his military career, he has learned the value of teamwork, discipline, and professionalism—principles that guide him both in and out of uniform.

According to Eric, “I’ve earned both my Surface and Air Warfare Specialist pins, been honored as Blue Jacket of the Year, and received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, all through dedication and perseverance. One of the most meaningful moments in my service was delivering food and water to hurricane victims in Haiti—an experience that deepened my commitment to serving those in need and inspired me to continue supporting underprivileged communities.” We are proud to have him in OSA and in the Gleaner Family.
