On Thursday, July 30, members of the Rotary Club of Herndon-Reston and Rotary Satellite Club of Herndon-Reston along with family members and volunteers, gathered for an evening of service, assembling more than 140 Hygiene Essentials Bags for She Believes In Me, a Northern Virginia nonprofit dedicated to helping children, teens, and families rebuild their lives with dignity, stability, and hope.
She Believes In Me empowers local families through mentoring, educational support, life-skills training, and access to essential resources. Their work creates pathways for families to overcome adversity and build brighter futures.
This project is part of the Rotary Club of Herndon-Reston's Hygiene Essentials Program, made possible through the club's Rotary District Grant. By partnering with organizations like She Believes in Me, Rotary is addressing a fundamental need that supports healthier children, stronger families, and a more compassionate community.
Each hygiene bag was carefully packed with everyday essentials—including shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and other personal care items. For a child, having clean hair, brushed teeth, and basic hygiene supplies can mean walking into school with confidence. It can improve self-esteem, and help children focus on learning rather than worrying about their basic needs. For parents struggling to provide for their families, receiving these essentials eases financial pressure and reminds them that their community stands beside them. This is what Service Above Self looks like.
When Rotary members join hands with community partners like She Believes In Me, lives are changed—not through grand gestures, but through thoughtful acts of kindness that remind families they are seen, valued, and never alone.
Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated. Special thanks to our Community Service Chair Elysa Hersch Birman for organizing.
