The Hernando Civic Garden Club is excited to announce the beautiful yard of Farrah and Lee Ellingburg as the Yard of the Season. Mr. Lee Ellingburg's passion for his landscape and lawn care has created a pristine lawn and show stopping azaleas and peonies. Congratulations to the Ellingburgs.

Members of the Hernando Civic Garden Club placed a patriotic wreath on the Blue Star Memorial located at the James F. Anderson Library in Hernando in observance of Memorial Day. The wreath honors the brave men and women of the Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our country.

This meaningful project began in 2011, with wreaths placed at the memorial throughout the year on Memorial Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day and Christmas. Natalie Lynch and Ashley Stevenson, Co-Chairs of the Historic Preservation/Civic Improvement Committee, coordinated the placement with assistance from fellow HCGC members Amanda Uselton, Donna Golden, Suzanne Cox, Stacy Dorris and Bonnie Reid.

The Blue Star Memorial, installed by the Hernando Civic Garden Club in 2008, stands as a tribute to all servicemen and women past, present, and future. 🇺🇸

Thank you City of Hernando, MS – Government for recognizing June 7-13 as National Garden Clubs Inc. National Garden Week by issuing a proclamation for the Hernando Civic Garden Club!

At last night’s Board meeting, Mayor Chip Johnson and the Board of Aldermen (wearing their new Farmers Market t-shirts) approved a Proclamation for National Garden Week (June 7-13). The City of Hernando proudly recognizes the important role gardeners play in enriching our community and our lives. Alderwoman Natalie Lynch is an active member of the Hernando Civic Garden Club (pictured below). We highlight the following two statements as noteworthy:

“WHEREAS, gardeners demonstrate a deep commitment to cultivating the earth's beauty and resources through the planting of seeds, the careful tending of plants, and the abundance yielded by their efforts; and

WHEREAS, gardening enriches our lives by adding beauty, splendor, fragrance, and nourishment through the cultivation of herbs, vegetables, foliage, and flowers…”

We are grateful for all those who dedicate their time and passion to gardening — helping make Hernando more beautiful, vibrant, and connected to the natural world!

8 of our Hernando Civic Garden Club members attended the Garden Clubs of Mississippi 97th annual convention hosted by the Natchez Garden Club. We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful convention, gorgeous centerpieces, floral designs, insightful programs, and delicious meals. We also had some time to explore the beautiful city of Natchez. Our HCGC won many excellent awards on the state as well as district levels. Thank you NGC for your hospitality and all of the details and time that went in to a MAHVALOUS convention.

The Hernando Civic Garden Club hosted a wonderful Flower Show “Things to Do in Hernando” and Blooms & Bows Luncheon that brought together creativity, community, and a shared appreciation for the beauty of nature.

The Blooms & Bows Luncheon featured the talented John Mark Sharpe of JME Enterprises, who demonstrated how to create beautiful bows and designed a breathtaking floral arrangement. Each of his creations was later auctioned, adding an exciting and engaging element to the event.

Guests gathered in the beautifully decorated ballroom at the DeSoto County Agri-Education Center, where they enjoyed a delicious meal catered by Magnolia Bend Grille.

Following the luncheon, attendees had the opportunity to view the free NGC Standard Flower Show, “Things To Do In Hernando.” The show featured 143 horticulture entries grown in members’ own yards, 24 creative design entries, and 2 educational exhibits—each reflecting the dedication and talent of the club’s members.

Events like this highlight the pride, creativity, and strong sense of community that make Hernando such a special place. 🎀💐💜
