Hurricane Milton Safety Message
Message from Citrus County Emergency Management: Citrus County is starting to experience the impacts of Hurricane Milton. Winds will continue to increase in strength. The high winds and rain will continue throughout the night, into late Thursday morning. Tornadoes are possible. You should remain in a safe location until the storm passes. There is a negative surge occurring along the coastline of Citrus County. Do not attempt to enter areas where water has receded as the Gulf water will return quickly and can cause drowning. Coastal storm surge is possible up to 4 ft. when the water returns.

Once the storm passes late tomorrow morning, do not be quick to venture out. There will be flooded roadways, downed power lines and fallen trees in roadways. Emergency personnel including power companies will be out in the community so please allow them to work without complicating efforts.

If you lose power, DO NOT call 9-1-1. Call your power company directly or use their smartphone application. Only call 9-1-1 for a true emergency. For disaster information and updates, follow the Citrus County Sheriff's Office Emergency Management .org or visit the disaster page at www.sheriffcitrus.org.

Repeated, do not venture out into the dangerous weather. Remain in your safe location. End of message.
