Shoutout to New Mexico's Rio Grande and Wheeler Peak crews who were sent to Oregon last week to help with the Pacific Northwest's difficult wildfire season.

We thank all the Oregon firefighters who pitched in down here during New Mexico's peak wildfire season. New Mexico is happy to return the favor.

The Agua Sana Fire Department extends our deepest condolences to the family of Fire Chief Ray Wolf and to all the members of the Española Fire Department during this difficult time.
Chief Ray Wolf was a true pioneer of the fire service in Northern New Mexico. He began his fire service career at the age of 16 as a volunteer firefighter with the Pojoaque Fire Department before joining the Española Fire Department in 1970 as a volunteer firefighter. As Volunteer Fire Chief in the 1980s, his leadership helped shape the future of the department by overseeing the hiring of its first two paid firefighters, laying the foundation for the professional department that proudly serves the community today.
Chief Wolf dedicated his life to serving the Española Valley, the State of New Mexico as a Deputy State Fire Marshal, and the fire service community. His vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment to protecting others left a lasting impact that will continue to inspire generations of firefighters.
On behalf of the Agua Sana Fire Department, we offer our heartfelt prayers and sympathies to Chief Wolf's family, friends, and every member of the Española Fire Department. We honor his extraordinary service, sacrifice, and the legacy he leaves behind.
Rest easy, Chief. Your duty is complete—we have the watch from here.

They grow up so fast.

The Lincoln National Forest is breaking ground on a five-year plan to restore the Blue 2 Fire burned area.

The forest has acquired 40,000 seedlings, enough to plant across 300 acres of the burned area. Among them are 100 seedlings which folks "adopted" and named at this year's Smokey Bear Days event. Proud seedlings parents: Get ready to watch your adoptees grow!

Reforestation is a priority in post-fire recovery work. High-intensity fires can leave forests unable to regenerate naturally due to limited surviving seed sources. In this burned area, foresters are planting ponderosa pines and Douglas this month, when monsoon moisture will improve soil conditions and support seedling survival.
