Sadly, another thief struck the Hickory County C.A.R.E.S. Thrift Store yesterday, August 6, 2026.
Because of these repeated thefts, we have adjusted our security cameras and installed motion-activated lighting to help us better identify anyone who attempts to steal donations during the night. We are taking these incidents very seriously.
Every bag of clothing and every donation left at our thrift store is given by someone with a generous heart. Those donations are meant to help our neighbors—not to be stolen. When someone takes from our donation area, they are taking affordable clothing away from families who rely on our thrift store and reducing the funds that help provide food for our neighbors through the Hickory County C.A.R.E.S. Food Pantry.
We will continue to monitor our cameras closely, and any evidence of theft will be shared with law enforcement and you here on facebook. As many of you have already shown, our community stands together. We received valuable tips after our last post, and we are grateful for everyone who has reached out to help. If you recognize anyone involved in these thefts, please send us a private message. The Hickory County Sheriff's Office will be notified.
To everyone who continues to donate, shop, volunteer, and support our mission—thank you. Your kindness helps feed families, clothe children, and bring hope to those facing difficult times. We are deeply grateful for your generosity and for standing with us as we work to protect the donations entrusted to our care.

It is with deep sadness that we have to share this post.
The photos below show the same individual repeatedly taking donations that were left for the Hickory County C.A.R.E.S. Thrift Store.
Our thrift store exists because of the generosity of the citizens of Hickory County and beyond. Every donation you make helps support the Hickory County C.A.R.E.S. Food Pantry in Wheatland, Missouri, providing food for more than 400 local families in need. When donations are taken before they ever reach our store, it isn't just the thrift store that suffers—it is the families who depend on those resources.
We understand that our donation area may be tempting, and we know it isn't always easy for everyone to visit during our business hours. However, if at all possible, we ask that donations be brought to the thrift store while we are open, Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Your help can make a real difference in preventing this from happening again.
We know these photos are not the clearest, but if you recognize these individuals, please send us a private message with any information that may help identify them. We respectfully ask our community to stand with us in putting an end to this.
Our mission has always been to serve our community. We work hard to keep our prices affordable so families can clothe themselves and their children, while using every possible dollar from our sales to help feed our neighbors. We strive to be faithful stewards of every donation entrusted to Hickory County C.A.R.E.S.
