EAST is a federally registered 501(c)3 non profit organization incorporated in 2012, and approved in August of 2014. Exotic Avian Sanctuary of Tennessee (EAST) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection of parrots living in captivity. We offer sanctuary to unadoptable parrots through sponsorships, as well as lifetime care to parrots whose guardians wish to give their companions

sanctuary for life. We provide natural environments for enrichment, flight and togetherness of a flock, and outside aviaries for fresh air and sunshine. EAST also provides adoption services for well-socialized parrots who desire human companionship. We feel strongly about educating the public about conservation and environmental issues, and to inspire a sense of responsibility toward the care of our earth and our animals. Parrots and other exotic birds represent the largest population of captive wildlife in the U.S., and the need to protect them continues to grow. We encourage everyone to appreciate and respect wild animals where they belong—in the wild.

Millie, the Miligold Macaw from the G23 hoarding/neglect case we took in last November, was adopted today by Lori. I have to say, this one was emotional.

And I put this gal through the ringer. lol Several deep and meaningful conversations, lots and lots of pictures of her set up and other birds, video calling, two separate visits to the Sanctuary to visit with Millie, more conversations, more pictures, more talking and messaging, she was probably ready to strangle me!

However, knowing what Millie had gone through, I needed to make triple sure this was going to be a good match, and I truly believe it will be. Every conversation I had with Lori I felt more confident. Everything I threw at her about time, patience, not pushing, and accepting him for exactly who he is, she answered brilliantly and gave me the reassurance I needed.

It's tough making these decisions. All you want for the birds we have put so much time, love and care into, is absolute best for them, always.

Lori works from home and has the time, love and patience to give Millie exactly what he needs. Even if he never wants to be handled, or touched, she is okay with that, and that is what I love about her. I think she is going to work her magic though and we will all be pleasantly surprised.

Gina, the Cockatiel, was adopted by the Hughes family this morning and we are thrilled! They adopted an African Grey from us a few years ago, so we know Gina will get lots of love from the whole family!

We had some toys delivered today! There was not a note, so I'm not sure who to thank, but we sure do appreciate you!

Today I want to talk about a lovely little African Grey named Stumpy. Stumpy came to EAST in 2015 and lived with us for about 7 years. He is missing most of his toes and part of one wing, so he was one of our special need's little guys. It happened while he was very young and still with the parent birds probably due to poor husbandry. He never knew he was handicapped and could get around just fine.

Then one of our former volunteers met and adopted him in 2022 and fell in love. She took Stumpy home and has given him the best life. He is currently 39 years old and is so loved and adored. He is a cheeky and determined little guy and loves his humans.

His guardian provided the generous 1000K match, which we have met thanks to you all! We still have a way to go, and lots of money to raise and things to get done, so any donation, no matter the amount, is always appreciated ❤
