Community wellbeing takes many forms. Sometimes, it's creating the conditions that help save a life.

Since 2022, the Buhl Regional Health Foundation's AED+ Program has worked with local healthcare partners to place more than 235 AEDs throughout Mercer County while providing training and ongoing support to community organizations.

In our latest story, hear from local partners about the impact of having life-saving equipment and training available when it matters most.

Healthy communities are built in many ways—including creating safe places where children can play, learn, and connect.

In downtown Sharon, a community-wide collaboration helped create the Youth Bicycle Safety and Skills Track, giving young people a space to build confidence, develop new skills, and enjoy the outdoors.

Local work. National stage.

We're proud to share that our Executive Director, Jennifer Barborak, is presenting this week at the Grantmakers in Health Annual Conference, a national gathering of foundations and funders working to improve health and wellbeing across the country.

Her session will explore how trust-based philanthropy helped create a collaborative learning cohort among three local childcare providers, demonstrating how relationships, shared learning, and community-driven approaches can strengthen systems that support children and families.

It's an honor to bring lessons from our region to a national audience and contribute to important conversations about the future of philanthropy.

What if we spent more time listening to the next generation?

As part of this year's scholarship application process, local students were asked to reflect on the conditions that help communities thrive. While their responses touched on many important topics, one theme rose to the top: belonging.

Students spoke about feeling seen and heard, creating opportunities for connection, supporting mental health, welcoming people of all abilities, and building communities where everyone feels they have a place.

One student wrote, "The young people of most communities often feel unheard."

Their ideas are thoughtful, hopeful, and a powerful reminder that young people aren't waiting to become community leaders someday—they are contributing today.

Read what Mercer County students had to say about belonging, connection, and the future they hope to help create.
