We love this photo of the Stanfield Explorer Group on the new Stanfield walking path after cleaning up around Bard Park. The club uses the walking path a few time per week and we're so glad it's being put to good use!

The HEROS - Hermiston Oregon Sportsplex creates a level playing field for local youth to participate in sports. We're proud to support the mission as they work to finish the lights and other projects on the fields at Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center.

We're pleased to announce grants awarded to five organizations that will improve athletics and recreation amenities, restore historic landmarks, and beautify our communities.

Through the competitive grant process in May, the Greater Hermiston Community Foundation (GHCF) selected projects that will demonstrate a lasting benefit to the Greater Hermiston area. The projects were funded through the GHCF forever fund totaling more than $65,000.

“People have been so generous to donate to the forever fund, and it’s gratifying to be able to invest the proceeds from that fund back into these worthy community projects,” said Greg Harris, Greater Hermiston Community Foundation Chair. “We want to share our thanks for those donations and to the organizations that are creating a bright future in the Greater Hermiston area.”

Recreation projects include helping rehabilitate the McNary Tennis Court Park into a pickleball court in Umatilla, complete lighting at the HEROS - Hermiston Oregon Sportsplex in Hermiston, and pave a walking path in Stanfield.

"The construction of these new pickleball courts reflects our commitment to providing high-quality recreational opportunities for residents of all ages," said Esmeralda Perches, Umatilla Parks & Recreation Director. "We are thrilled and grateful to receive grant funding from the Greater Hermiston Community Foundation, whose support is helping make this project possible. Their investment in our community demonstrates a shared commitment to enhancing recreational opportunities and improving quality of life for residents. We are excited to partner with organizations that believe in the future of our community and help us create spaces where people can live, play, and connect."

In Echo, the Echo Heritage Association will drill a well and build a pump to provide water for the first time at St. Peter’s Church and the neighboring property for a planned community center.

In Hermiston, Community Counseling Solutions will revitalize its newly leased property on Orchard Avenue with a welcoming, accessible and community-centered space.

GHCF will also continue matching donations to the American Legion Post 37 Avenue of Flags storage projects through the end of 2026.

The Greater Hermiston Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in Hermiston and the surrounding areas. By providing grants and support to local organizations, the Foundation aims to foster a thriving community for all residents. Before the cross was lifted into place, a small group gathered while Father Luis of Boardman Parrish offered a lovely, very well-suited blessing. Behind Fr. Luis is Teres, then Phyllis, Chris, Rod (the master craftsman), McCormack guys Steven, Trevor and Brian and surveyor, Steve Haddock of Pilot Rock. (Mike Duffy was behind the camera).

The beautiful remarks Father offered...would have been wonderful for everyone to hear, ...truly.

We HIGHLY recommend a stop in Echo to see the cross atop St. Peters.
