Advance Hermantown The Advance Hermantown initiative is an effort to ensure a successful future for our community Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are you up to?

The Advance Hermantown initiative is an effort to ensure a successful future for our community. We believe the only way we can get there is by all agreeing on where we are going, a destiny, and working together to get there. We are trying to identify a shared vision or destiny by listening carefully to all our community members. We don’t have all the answers. The “stewards” are folks asked to star

t the conversations about “What do we want to be when we grow up”? What does Hermantown want to be known for in 10, 20 or 50 years? You can help us figure that out by giving us your ideas, thoughts and dreams.

2. What is stewardship? Stewards are ordinary people. People from all walks of life and who care deeply about the community. Stewards are leaders who cross boundaries, take an integrated approach and build coalitions for action. They have 360-degree vision, recognizing the interdependencies between the economy, the environment and social equity. Stewards operate at the center of tough issues, not on the edges. They are risk takers. They are passionate and energetic. They are people of vision.

3. What is the motivation for the Advance Hermantown Initiative? There is a desire to create a brighter future for all our community members. We believe the best days of our community are ahead of us, but we can only get there if we all get on the same page and we figure out how to work together.

4. When did this start? In November 2010, a group of interested citizens of Hermantown began thinking about how to take our community to a new level of prosperity. Our community will have the guidance and support of the Center for Community Stewardship, which has successfully led similar efforts in other communities.

Thanks to the DNT for todays article on the EHRWC! A couple of points of clarification. The reason why the opening is in 2019 is solely due to the timing of bond funding from from the State of Minnesota. Also, upon an engineering analysis it was determined that the existing gym could not be utilized due to water drainage concerns (and integration to the new facility) with a grade that is four feet below Arrowhead Road. The 1992 classroom wing on Ugstad Road can still be used because the location in the new facility will allow for necessary grade changes and proper drainage. We are committed to doing this project right for the residents of this region!
