You're invited to an Open House tomorrow evening with Deutschheim State Historic Site!
π Friday, October 4th
β° 5:00-6:00 PM
π The Strehly House Winery
130 W. Second Street, Hermann, MO
Visitors are invited to view this newly re-vamped historic winery and visit with site administrator Lori Cody, who will share future plans and answer attendeesβ questions. We hope to see you there!
The wineryβs history goes back to 1843, when Carl Strehly, publisher of the Hermanner Wochenblatt weekly newspaper, along with his editor Eduard Muehl, acquired land on one of the eastern hillsides in town to plant a vineyard. Unfortunately, Muehl died in 1854, but Strehly continued to work on construction of the winery, which opened in 1857.
The current winery exhibit in the pressroom offers a stunning forced perspective wall mural, in the form of full-size photos of the extensive cellar below, lending the visitor an impression of gazing into the actual cellar. Also on display is a collection of cask and barrel making tools, antique winemaking equipment, and the Bacchus cask made for Franz Langendoerfer in 1875.
Missouri Wines will be on hand, featuring local Missouri wines for tasting during the exhibit opening.
