Case 108
Concerned nurse’s referral means utility help for family
The Christmas season is rich in legends and traditions. We consider the narrative of Luke about no room at the inn for travel weary Mary and worried Joseph. Might we think of the innkeeper, who generally gets a bad rap, but may well have shown consideration of this couple in need and provided for them even if he didn’t have a room to offer. Maybe he simply did what he could with what was available.
On this day, there’s a story of a nurse at an Amarillo hospital who followed that example and did his very best to find some help for a Hereford family in need. That action and his compassionate referral are the stuff of Christmas Stocking Fund Case 108 involving a handicapped child with mobility issues, her mother, an aunt, and cousins ages 4 and 1.
The nurse, Mr. M., was keenly aware of the needs of the young teen he cared for, and her extended family, who were facing a hopeless situation with overwhelming utility bills.
Nurse M. sought help for the girl’s family through many sources, but was discouraged at every turn. Somehow, he heard about Hereford’s Christmas Stocking Fund. After multiple phone calls, he connected with someone who put him in touch with the CSF committee.
There will be help for a Hereford family in need because a caring soul asked himself what he could do with what he had available.
You too can use your gifts to serve others in these final days of the 2025 Christmas Stocking Fund campaign. CSF welcomes referrals from concerned individuals, civic clubs, agencies and other sources.
Generous local residents who donate to the Christmas Stocking Fund help the hometown holiday charity to touch need within the limitation of the amount of donations received.
