Message from our Treasurer and Secretary Judy Cheung on the recent California Wildfires. All are safe!
Dear active UPLI members. Thank you for your concern about the well being of our California members. Last year, some of our members were in dire jeopardy from the flames. This year, the fires are about 100 miles away. None of our members are in jeopardy of burning. However, the smoke is coming south and west, giving us all very heavy smoke rated from unhealthy to dangerous. It is sometimes so dark in the afternoon, that streetlights come on. We are all under health hazard alerts to not go outside and to not exercise heavily. So far, the only bad effects have been coughing, sneezing, runny noses and watery eyes. We are hoping for rain next week to help with the situation. No active member currently lives near the southern California fires.
