Indiana has established itself as a powerhouse for robotics, thanks in large part to the work of TechPoint Youth! Our state was represented well at the VEX World Championship where 80 teams from Indiana competed across all levels, elementary IQ, middle school IQ, middle school V5, high school V5, and VEXU. It was great to see some familiar faces and cheer on our Indiana teams whenever we could!

FINAL DAY: Henryville Elementary Robotics Team 12022C

After the marathon on Day 2, Day 3 is a sprint to the finish! Team 12022C was able to improve their Skills score finishing 218th out of over 400 teams here, they dropped their highest score of the tournament with a well-known program (Caution Tape), and still had time to snap a quick picture with the co-founder of VEX Robotics, Bob Mimlitch, who took time to ask them where they were from, what their roles on the team were, and explain that great teams work together instead of everyone having narrowly defined roles. An amazing week at the VEX World Championship is coming to an end with the elementary closing ceremony. I hope our elementary team had as much fun this week as our middle school teams had!

Henryville Elementary Robotics Day 2 at the VEX IQ World Championship! Let’s go Team 12022C!

HES Robotics will have a much busier day on day 2! Here is a list of their queues and the estimated queue times. (Yesterday they competed in Queue #7 and Queue #44. If you want to watch yesterday's matches, you'll have to find the link to the livestream I shared yesterday.)

After completing their first match yesterday, they were ranked 10th in the SCIENCE division (out of 84.) After their second match and the completion of everyone else's matches, they finished with a rank of 52. Today they will work on raising their average scores and ranking higher. A major goal will be to rank 32nd or higher after completion of tomorrow's matches.

We're all super proud of these boys, so cheer hard for them!

THAT’S A WRAP! The VEX Robotics Middle School World Championship is OVER and it was an incredible experience for Henryville Robotics!

A lot of ups and downs, but most importantly an eye-opening opportunity for our teams. We had people from at least 32 countries stop by our pit and trade swag or drop a pin on our world map this weekend. We didn’t all speak the same language, we didn’t all travel the same distance, or have the same resources, but our kids were able to connect with teams from all over the globe around a common interest. The season started with over 3,000 middle school teams, leading to this weekend where almost 600 of the top teams in the world competed in over 2,300 matches before World Champions were crowned and next year’s game was revealed.

We are incredibly blessed by the outpouring of support from our sponsors, our community, and a lot of new followers on social media!

Day 3 Recap:

The rope drop this morning was pretty intense, reminiscent of Days of Thunder!

Luckily, America’s Center Convention Complex is a designated shelter-in-place building , as we went under tornado warnings twice today without missing a beat! You could definitely tell who the midwestern teams were when the weather alerts started sounding on every phone in the convention center.

Team A went 1-1 in qualification matches today taking their overall record to 3-7, finishing 67th in the Math Division (5th toughest out of 7 divisions). They also increased their Skills score to finish 221st for the weekend.

Team C also went 1-1 in qualification matches today taking their overall record to 4-6, finishing 54th in the Spirit Division (2nd toughest out of 7 divisions). They also made a jump with their Skills score, finishing the weekend ranked 174th.

Henryville Robotics also made the Jumbotron at Closing Ceremony!

Not a bad run for our second year VEX V5 program!

Now we can turn our attention to Team 12022C who is competing in the VEX IQ World Championship April 28-30 here in St. Louis!
