Our Guild is for quilters of all ages and skill level who wish to surround themselves with others who enjoy this craft. The Marshall-Putnam Quilter’s Guild was formed, in 1984, as a Special Interest group of Marshall-Putnam Homemakers Association who went through many name changes, last being known as Marshall-Putnam Home and Community Education, aka HCE. Carolyn Hunt, Sparland, was our Extension
unit leader and created the concept of the quilt guild and an art guild. The Homemakers organization disbanded in 2003 with a heavy heart, but the guild remained an independent group on their own. Marshall-Putnam Quilters Guild met in the basement of the Marshall-Putnam Farm Bureau Building, located on Front Street. We gave $1 per member to HCE to support the copies and rent. Our remaining Charter members [as of 2015], are Linda Klein and Marge Read. The members were mostly responsible for programs and workshop instruction. They would only have 1-2 outside speakers (quilters from other groups and/or shop owners) and usually were very informal. We moved to the Presbyterian Church Community Hall when the hauling of our equipment and machines for workshops up and down the steep steps, became such a burden on our growing membership. Marshall-Putnam Quilters Guild is one of the few who meet during the day. Membership is $15.00 per year. Guest are welcome to join us for a $3.00 guest fee. Workshops usually begin at 9 a.m. followed by a meeting at 1 p.m., all of which are held the second Wednesday of the month September-December and January through May of the following year. All meetings are held at the Presbyterian Church Hall [Wirt St., Henry, Illinois.] unless otherwise stated. Workshops, open to the public, are scattered throughout the year as well as programs on various topics, which are held in conjunction with our meetings. Some workshops are presented by members themselves, and others are presented by outside guests. To increase the enjoyment of the guild gatherings, we include a couple of potlucks and other 'munching' events throughout the year. We also wish to give our members the opportunity to share their knowledge and do 'show and tell'. Above all, we hope to promote fun and fellowship....Please come and join us! If you have questions about our guild, please call our President Jen Nauman at ---------, or feel free to message us through our page.
