IMPORTANT NEWS!

Henrico County has received reports that individuals posing as Public Utilities or other agency employees are attempting to enter residents’ homes. In many instances, these individuals claim they need to change a water or utilities meter. In Henrico, these meters are usually located outside homes.

With the exception of law enforcement, county employees very rarely have a need to enter a resident’s home. If you are not expecting a visit from a Henrico employee, do not allow anyone posing as such to enter your home.

In such events, please call Henrico County Police at either 911 for emergencies or 804-501-5000 for non-emergencies. You can also request to see the individual’s county badge or call Public Utilities at 804-501-4275 if you would like to verify a DPU employee.

NEW HOUSING COMING TO THE FAIRFIELD DISTRICT (Eastern Henrico)

The Helios will be one of the first apartment communities of its size to be both affordable and solar-powered, according to its developers. Solar electricity will be generated through solar panels on the three buildings plus a ground array, significantly reducing the utility and electricity costs of residents.

“We need places for people to live, and this is what this project is about,” County Manager John Vithoulkas said. “Projects like this demonstrate what’s possible.”

The Helios community, he added, reflects widespread reinvestment in the Fairfield District and complements county efforts to boost access to affordable housing through its recently announced affordable housing trust and other projects, including a planned redevelopment of Glenwood Farms by the same developers leading The Helios.

Glenwood Farms, which was built in 1948 off Laburnum Avenue, has been plagued by years of neglect. Since 2018, the county has issued more than 340 notices of violation for more than 2,200 violations of the building and maintenance codes.

In addition to the apartments, The Helios will include a clubhouse, fitness center, playground, dog park, grilling area and open green space.

“This collaboration will benefit our community by providing more high-quality, affordable housing in Henrico,” Fairfield Supervisor Roscoe D. Cooper III said. “This development creates both jobs and housing for our residents, and it supports the broader reinvention and strengthening of the Chamberlayne corridor. The developers’ vision to provide affordable yet modern housing with sustainable initiatives is truly commendable. This will create a long-lasting impact in both Henrico and greater Richmond.”

DID YOU KNOW – one of the common complaints we receive is for parking concerns?

As of late, we’ve received many photos and messages from community members about the way some neighbors are parking within a cul-de-sac. Having seen some of the “creative” parking maneuvers, we felt it was a good idea to highlight proper cul-de-sac etiquette.

As a friendly reminder, Henrico County has a code specific to angle parking (Section 22-156). In part, this code states that unless there are markings approved by the county manager, motor vehicles or other automotive equipment MUST be parked parallel to the curb, or edge of the roadway.

Remember – a cul-de-sac can sometimes be on the small side. Everyone should respect the proper flow of traffic and their neighbors. Please do not:

• Park perpendicular to the curb
• Park in the middle of the cul-de-sac
• Block a neighbor’s driveway

If you are dealing with a situation like this, please fill out our online traffic complaint form located here: https://henrico.us/services/traffic-complaints/.
