Today, B-Shift, along with our Junior Volunteer Firefighters, spent time training on basic vehicle extrication skills and techniques when working with passenger vehicles.

This training helps members build confidence, learn proper tool use, and understand the steps involved in safely gaining access to patients during motor vehicle accidents.

We’re proud to see our junior members learning alongside our firefighters and continuing to grow their knowledge of the fire service.

Great work by everyone involved! 🚒

On Tuesday, Mountain Home Fire & Rescue C-Shift spent time working with our new recruits on fireground operations and “first 5 minute” training.

The first few minutes on the scene of a fire are critical. Crews reviewed everyone’s role, responsibilities, and expectations when arriving on scene, including size-up, hose deployment, water supply, communication, accountability, and coordinated fire attack.

This type of training helps ensure our firefighters understand their assignments, work together as a team, and are prepared to operate safely and effectively when our community needs us.

Great work by C-Shift and our new recruits as they continue building the skills needed to serve Mountain Home Fire & Rescue and the citizens of our district.

Welcome to MHFR! 🚒

Mountain Home Fire & Rescue would like to congratulate our newest firefighters and welcome them to the department.

Please join us in welcoming:

🚒 Firefighter Nicolas Justus — B Shift, Station 1
🚒 Firefighter Andrew Hensley — C Shift, Station 1
🚒 Firefighter Brody Davis — C Shift, Station 1

Each new hire will complete a 6-month probationary period, where they will continue learning their role as firefighters at Mountain Home Fire & Rescue, gaining hands-on experience, and working alongside our members as they serve our community.

We are excited to have them on board and look forward to seeing them grow in their careers with MHFR.

Congratulations and welcome to the Mountain Home family! 👏

🚨 Burn Ban Update 🚨

Henderson County is one of the counties where the burn ban has been lifted.

While the ban has been lifted, residents are reminded that a valid burn permit is still required before conducting open burning.

You can apply for a burn permit by downloading the Mountain Home Fire & Rescue app and clicking “Burn Permit” on the left side of the screen, or by visiting our website at Mtnhomefire.com.

Please remember: If it doesn’t grow, don’t burn it.

✅ Allowed to burn, under the proper conditions:
• Leaves
• Limbs
• Brush
• Yard debris/natural vegetation from your property
• Untreated clean wood

🚫 Do NOT burn:
• Household trash
• Plastic
• Tires or rubber products
• Treated or painted wood
• Construction materials
• Cardboard or paper
• Furniture
• Chemicals, paint, oil, or other hazardous materials
• Any man-made or synthetic items

Even though the burn ban has been lifted, please continue to burn responsibly. Never leave a fire unattended, keep water or a hose nearby, and make sure the fire is completely out before leaving the area.

Thank you for helping keep our community safe.

Yesterday evening several firefighters from Mountain Home Fire & Rescue teamed up with Mills River Fire & Rescue, Henderson County Emergency Management , and faculty from West Henderson High School for a kickball game against the students—all for a great cause.

The friendly matchup helped raise money for Sheepdog club, supporting scholarships for students pursuing a career in emergency services.

It’s always a good day when we can connect with the next generation, have some fun, and support those looking to serve their communities.

We appreciate West Henderson High School for hosting and everyone who came out to support the event.

Investing in the future of the fire service starts right here.

The statewide burn ban remains in effect until further notice despite weekend rain in some areas. Persistent dry weather and increasing rainfall deficits from the last several months have left most of the state needing 10 inches of rain or more.

“While the rainfall we received over the weekend was a welcome sight, it offered little to no relief from widespread drought conditions while being nowhere near enough to reduce our wildfire risk,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “Even the areas that received the heaviest amount of rain will quickly dry out from the sunshine and warmer temperatures. Until we get some additional rain and see more green-up in our forests, holding the burn ban in place statewide is the best option right now.”

While green-up and leaf-out are progressing at normal rate, low soil moisture, dry surface fuels and persistent low humidity are contributing to wildfire activity. For Western North Carolina, excessive forest fuels from Hurricane Helene are more available now than they were in 2025, low water levels in coastal areas have helped produce intense fire behavior where ground fire will likely be a long-term issue, and the Piedmont experienced 87 new wildfire starts over the weekend alone. Extended attack and mop-up efforts will be taxing and long-winded until drought conditions improve.

🚫 Burn Ban Reminder 🚫

The burn ban is still currently in effect for our area. We ask everyone to continue to avoid any outdoor burning until further notice due to ongoing dry conditions.

We will notify the community as soon as the ban is lifted.

Thank you for doing your part to help keep our community safe.

Yesterday, Mountain Home Fire & Rescue assisted Dana Fire Department with a brush fire on Howard Gap Road.

The North Carolina Forest Service is still on scene monitoring the area.

🔥 A reminder that the burn ban is still in effect.

With current dry conditions, it does not take much for a fire to get out of control. Please avoid any outdoor burning and be mindful of anything that could start a fire.

Thank you for helping keep our community safe.

Today, crews from Mountain Home Fire & Rescue had the opportunity to visit Kimberly-Clark (Berkeley Mills) to work with their Emergency Response Team on fire extinguisher training.

Participants received hands-on instruction on how to properly operate a fire extinguisher, along with a review of key techniques for safely handling small fires in the workplace.

Training like this helps build confidence and ensures employees are prepared to take quick action during the early stages of an emergency—when it matters most.

We appreciate the team at Kimberly-Clark for having us out and their continued commitment to safety.

If your business or organization is interested in training opportunities, feel free to reach out—we’re always glad to help.
