Last month, Literacy Connection partnered with True Ridge and First United Methodist Church - Hendersonville, NC for a lively evening of tacos, lotería, and community conversation.

Guests gathered to enjoy delicious food, learn more about our programs, and experience the joy of lotería, a traditional Mexican game similar to bingo that brought plenty of laughter and friendly competition to the room.

Community members learned more about Literacy Connection’s English language and citizenship programs while students, tutors, and church members shared conversations about their hometowns, families, and lives.

It was a simple reminder that community grows when people spend time together.

Sometimes the biggest victories are the everyday moments many of us take for granted. Being able to confidently order a meal, ask a question, or navigate daily life independently can be life-changing for adult learners.

This is one of the success stories we hear most often! It's a powerful reminder that learning English creates freedom, confidence, and connection.

We love seeing our tutors proudly wearing their new Literacy Connection shirts! 💙

A big thank you to the Four Seasons Rotary Club for supporting our Literacy Ambassadors project. Their grant helped us provide tutor training meals and these shirts for the volunteers who give their time each week to help adult learners in our community.

Our tutors make such a difference helping students build English skills, prepare for citizenship, support their families, and reach personal goals. We’re grateful to have community partners who believe in this work as much as we do.

Last week, our Citizenship Prep tutors came together for a training filled with learning, collaboration, and plenty of fun! New tutors got trained, and returning tutors shared strategies for supporting students as they prepare for their naturalization interviews, exchanged ideas and best practices, and everyone left with new resources to strengthen their work.

We’re so grateful for the energy, creativity, and dedication our tutors bring to helping learners reach this important milestone on their citizenship journey.
