💙 A special shoutout to Emmy! 💙

Today we want to celebrate something truly special.

Emmy saved her own money and thoughtfully selected each of these toys for children in foster care. She picked them out herself from her mom's store, Fletcher's FUN Toys, with the goal of bringing joy to children who may be facing some of the hardest days of their lives.

At Heartprint, we love seeing parents who intentionally teach their children the value of helping others. Acts of generosity like this don't happen by accident—they are often the result of parents modeling compassion, kindness, and service in everyday life.

Rachel, thank you for raising a daughter who looks for ways to care for others. And Emmy, thank you for sharing your hard-earned money and your big heart with children in our community. Your gift is a reminder that you are never too young to make a difference.

We are so grateful for families like Emmy's and community partners like Fletcher's Fun Toys who help show foster children that they are seen, valued, and loved.

💙 Join us in thanking Emmy for making a difference, one toy at a time.

The numbers tell a powerful story.

While the number of children in foster care in North Carolina has decreased over the past few years, there are still thousands of children who need safe, loving homes. At the same time, the number of licensed foster homes continues to fall, creating a gap that leaves many children without enough placement options when they enter care.

Behind every data point is a child experiencing one of the hardest days of their life. A child who may be removed from their home with little warning, carrying only a few belongings and a lot of uncertainty.

That's why Heartprint has a vision for an Emergency Placement Home — a home that serves as "a safe place to land" when children first enter care. Instead of spending hours waiting in an office or being moved from place to place while a foster home is located, children would have a welcoming, nurturing environment where they can rest, feel safe, and begin to process what is happening.

The need is real. The gap is growing. And together, we can create a softer landing for children during their most difficult moments.

Did you know we host a monthly support group?

This is a dedicated space where local foster parents come together to find community, share experiences, and be supported by people who truly understand the journey.

Foster care can feel isolating—but it doesn’t have to be.

These gatherings are about encouragement, connection, and reminding families that they are not walking this path alone here in Western North Carolina.

If you’re a foster parent and would like to join us, we’d love to have you—and if you know someone who could benefit from community like this, please pass it along.

Foster Care Awareness Month may be over, but the need in our community continues—and so does the momentum.

So far, we’ve had the privilege of presenting at 3 churches, sharing stories, needs, and the heart behind our mission here in Western North Carolina.

We would love the opportunity to come share with your church as well.

Invite us to set up a table, meet your church family, and talk about what we do—and how individuals can get involved in supporting children and families in foster care right here in WNC.

Together, we can continue building awareness, support, and a stronger network of care for local children.

If your church is interested in hosting us, let us know when we can come.

🎓 Celebrating 10 Amazing Graduates! 🎓

This year, we had the privilege of celebrating 10 graduates across Western North Carolina who achieved this milestone while in foster care.

Their journeys haven't always been easy, but through resilience, determination, and hard work, they crossed the stage and earned their diplomas.

We are incredibly proud of each of them and can't wait to see what comes next. Join us in congratulating these remarkable young people on a job well done! 🎉💙

While sorting donations at a local sale, I overheard someone say, "It's stained, but a foster kid would probably love it. It's better than nothing."

No. It's not.

Children in foster care have already experienced enough loss and uncertainty. Giving them items that are stained, damaged, or unusable sends a message that they should be grateful for whatever is left over. We believe they deserve better.

Every child deserves dignity. They deserve clothing that is clean, belongings that are cared for, and items that communicate a simple but important message: You matter.

We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our community. The support we receive allows us to meet the needs of foster families across Western North Carolina. As we continue to grow, we also need to be mindful about what we accept so that our volunteers can spend less time sorting unusable items and more time serving children and families.

When donating, please make sure items are:

• Clean and freshly laundered
• Free of stains, odors, and holes
• In-season and in good condition
• Appropriate for children and teens

A simple guideline: If you wouldn't give it to your own child, please don't donate it to a child in foster care.

"Better than nothing" is not the standard.

Dignity is.

Imagine it's the day after Christmas.

Yesterday, your world changed forever.

You were removed from your parents' home with only the belongings you could carry. The excitement of Christmas morning is already a distant memory. As the day comes to an end, there's nowhere for you to go. No relatives are available. No foster home is open.

So you spend the night in a DSS office.

Not because you've done anything wrong. Not because it's where children belong. Simply because there is nowhere else for you to go.

You lie awake on a pallet on the floor. The lights never fully go out. The office is quiet, but not comforting. You're scared. Confused. Wondering what happens next. Wondering if anyone remembers you're there.

The next day, a foster family opens their door and welcomes you in.

But you'll never forget that night.

The night you felt alone.

The night you felt forgotten.

The night you had nowhere to belong.

At Heartprint Resources, we believe no child should have to experience that.

That's why we have a vision for an Emergency Placement Home—a safe, welcoming place where children can go when there are no immediate foster homes available. A place that feels like a home, not an office. A place where children can find comfort, stability, and a soft place to land during one of the most traumatic moments of their lives.

A place where they can sleep in a real bed.

A place where they can be reminded that they matter.

A place where they can begin to feel safe again.

Right now, we're searching for the right property to make this vision a reality.

Because every child deserves more than a pallet on the floor of an office.

Every child deserves a soft place to land.

Every child deserves a home.

If you'd like to support this vision or help us identify a property that could meet this need, we'd love to hear from you. Together, we can ensure that no child spends their first night in foster care feeling alone.

As Foster Care Awareness Month comes to a close, we simply want to say thank you — to YOU. 💙

To every foster parent, kinship caregiver, volunteer, donor, advocate, partner, and supporter: thank you for showing up for children and families in Western North Carolina.

The way this community rallies around foster families is truly incredible. From donations and meals to prayers, encouragement, volunteering, and opening your homes and hearts — every act of support matters.

There is no way Heartprint Resources could serve families the way we do without this amazing community standing beside us. You are helping children feel seen, loved, supported, and cared for during some of the hardest moments of their lives.

Thank you for being part of the village. Thank you for caring. Thank you for leaving a Heartprint on our community. 💙

Looking for a meaningful way to get involved with Heartprint Resources during Foster Care Awareness Month? 💙

We are looking for a few more reliable volunteers to help keep our resource center running smoothly for foster families in our community. Every hour volunteered helps us better support children and caregivers navigating foster care.

Volunteer tasks may include:
• Sorting donations
• Organizing items
• Re-stocking the resource center

Ideally, we are looking for:
• Someone available Tuesdays/Thursdays from 12–2 PM
• Someone who could help one evening a week by keeping open hours for foster families who work during the day

Foster care is not something families should have to navigate alone. By volunteering, you become part of the village supporting children and caregivers right here in our community.

Send us a message for more information or to get involved!
