We are Jennifer and Andrew Gonzales. If you’re a parent, think about your worst nightmare… Your child stops breathing and your family’s lives change forever. That was our reality on the afternoon of August 4th, 2016 when our healthy and happy 6 week- old baby Kylan stopped breathing and suffered a cardiac arrest. We started CPR, chest compressions and rescue breaths through our tears and prayed he
would survive. EMS finally arrived and immediately arranged care flight helicopter transfer to Dallas Children’s Hospital ICU. There, the doctors gave him a slim chance of survival and diagnosed him with anoxic brain injury. They predicted he “would never make it off the ventilator” and may not leave the hospital. Kylan proved the doctors wrong and continued to fight and was ultimately discharged a month later. He suffered several setbacks with repeat cardiac arrest and transfer back, but despite all that he continues to survive and slowly thrive. He is a MIRACLE BABY to us. Like most babies, his birth and first few weeks of his life were full of hope and anticipation of creating normal memories like first steps, taking him to Rangers games and sending him off to kindergarten. Since that horrific day that changed everything we have witnessed great miracles and have all grown closer to God and His goodness (and for that we are beyond thankful and appreciative). The reality of our daily struggle is that Kylan needs 24/7 care and between suctioning, tube feeds, tracheostomy (breathing tube) care and doctor visits we have exhausted much of our modest resources. We are asking for your kindness to help provide the funds to assist us in purchasing some necessities for his daily care. Specifically, we desire a Disability Enabled Van to provide him transportation to and from his frequent doctor and therapy visits. We appreciate any donation small or large to reach our goal of $25,000 for the van. They say, it takes a village to raise a child. We are pleading for anyone and everyone to help and be part of this journey with us. Thank you and God bless you for reading our story.
