Two years ago:
God bless this family..

Rick Harrison and his family from the popular TV show "Pawn Stars" have experienced a tragedy in their family. Adam, Rick's son, has died of a fatal overdose at the age of 39.

Addiction is such a horrible disease that aims to take away your life. First, it sells you on all these magical feelings like escaping reality. It takes away your pain, anxiety, and makes you feel great. All the horrible things that have happened to you in life suddenly disappear for a few hours or until the high wears off. Then, you use again to try to find that same feeling you first felt, only to find out that you will never find that feeling through drugs or alcohol again. Then, you keep using more and more to the point where you either end up hopeless, suicidal, or dead.

The drugs that are on the streets right now are killing anyone and everyone who uses them. I've witnessed a fatal overdose happen every single day in the community I grew up in and the community I got sober in, in the past 30 days. That's 30 people in 30 days that I know. Those are 30 mothers, daughters, sons, uncles, brothers, aunts, fathers, and most importantly, someone who loved them. Just like Rick loves his son, who is now torn away from him because of this horrible tragedy. My prayers are with you, Rick, and your family. My prayers are with anyone who has lost someone to an overdose. It's like a piece of you is here one minute and then the next, they're gone.

Please seek help if you're struggling with substance use disorders or mental health disorders. There are people willing and waiting to help. You just have to make the call.

UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty and Research Hospital is the first hospital in Texas to approve a non-narcotic painkiller called suzetrigine as a first-line treatment for post-surgery pain. One doctor believes it will become a powerful weapon in the opioid epidemic.

The latest 12-month report from the CDC showed 1,400 more deaths in January of this year compared with the year prior. This comes after more than a year of dramatic progress. Experts say they're not sure if this is a "blip" or something more troubling.
