We remember Dolly Parton, not only for the music, joy, and kindness she shared with the world, but for the millions of children whose lives she changed through the gift of a book.

In 1995, Dolly founded the Imagination Library, inspired by her father, who never had the opportunity to learn to read and write. What began as a way to put books into the hands of children in her home community grew into a global movement, gifting free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five.

Dolly understood something we know well at Spread the Word Nevada: when a child has a book, they have an opportunity to imagine, to learn, to dream, and to discover a world of possibilities.

Her legacy will live on in the countless children who grew up with books on their shelves and stories in their hearts.

Thank you, Dolly, for believing in the power of a book, and in the limitless potential of every child.

Our hearts are with our Northern Nevada community as the Hawk Fire continues to impact families across our region. 🔥💔

We are thinking of the families who have lost homes, been displaced, and are facing so much uncertainty. With schools across Washoe County closed, we know this adds another layer of stress. School is more than academics—it provides stability, meals, connection, and support for children.

It was a busy and exciting morning for us at Spread the Word Nevada!

Today, we officially welcomed Dondero Elementary School as the newest recipient school of all three of our programs: Books & Buddies, Breakfast/Snack Time with Books, and Kids to Kids! We're so excited to see the impact these programs will have on Dondero students throughout the school year.

We had an absolute blast getting to know the incredible staff and helping each student grow their home libraries. A heartfelt thank you to our program sponsor, Credit One Bank, for making this partnership possible and helping us bring the joy and power of reading to even more Nevada students!📚️💙
