Spread the Word Nevada is a children’s literacy nonprofit dedicated to advancing early childhood literacy by placing books into the hands and homes of children within Nevada’s low-income communities. Spread the Word Nevada, Inc., is a children’s literacy nonprofit, 501(c) (3) corporation, dedicated to advancing early childhood literacy by placing books into the hands and homes of children within Nevada’s at-risk, low-income communities. Since 2001, Spread the Word Nevada has distributed more than 5.8 million gently used and new books to approximately 645,071 low-income youth in Nevada. We’re thrilled to welcome back Ameriprise Financial – Lee, Langlois, and Associates as a dedicated supporter of literacy!

Their generous $25,000 gift renews their adoption of Bill Y. Tomiyasu Elementary School for another year, continuing their investment in the students and literacy opportunities at the school. On March 6, 2027, Spread the Word Nevada invites you to wish upon a star at our 24th Annual Storybook Gala, inspired by Carlo Collodi's Pinocchio.

For 24 years, this magical night has raised vital funds to put books and literacy programs into the hands of children in Nevada’s underserved communities. And while we didn’t start theming our galas after beloved children’s stories until 2014 with The Cat in the Hat, we’ve since adventured through Treasure Island, danced with Cinderella, roared with Where the Wild Things Are, and so many more.

Join us as we take a nostalgic voyage through our Storybook Gala history; and continue championing literacy for the children who need it most.

“When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are…” ✨

A little fairy tale magic found its way into our Books & Buddies center at Culley Elementary School this morning! Our Facilitator unveiled their newly decorated classroom, inspired by Pinocchio, the theme of our 24th annual Storybook Gala.

But the real magic happens between the pages of a book. Thanks to our dedicated volunteer mentors, students have more than just a reading partner. They have a friend, a role model, and someone who believes in their potential. One hour of reading, encouragement, and connection each week can spark a lifelong love of learning and help a child’s dreams take flight.

Because sometimes, all it takes is a little imagination, a caring mentor, and a wish upon a star to make something extraordinary happen.
